Villa Antal is an ultra-contemporary new build, offering cutting-edge architectural design and slick, minimalist interiors: a haven of sleek quality and design within a tranquil rural setting in northern Istria. Perched in a tranquil spot surrounded by green, just 5km from the dazzling coast, this superior abode is a veritable haven of style and seclusion within one of the lesser-trodden parts of Croatia.
Casting an impressive silhouette, with flat-roofed, linear architecture and modernist outdoor spaces, Villa Antal is a little slice of sophistication within a charmingly old-world region. Set across three storeys, the innovative designer flair interwoven into this stylish home offers surprising touches at every turn. With an indoor-outdoor interplay, the pool deck offers continuity into the home thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass doors, offering a romantic setting with glittering coast views in the distance and the indulgent, bubbling hot-tub indoors.
Finessed to an impeccable standard, executed with both decadence and wellness in mind, there is a spa and gym area in the lower ground floor, as well as high tech touches such as outdoor projector with loudspeakers, automatic blinds. Set against a dense green wooded area, cut into the cliff with local stone, this unique home blends the best of authentic raw materials and connection to nature with slick, bold design choices. Modern, layered gardens are surrounded by green while dining al fresco beneath the stars in the balmy evening air as the home and gardens are illuminated will be a memory-making experience. The upper roof deck with day beds and fashionable hanging chair sets the scene for lively evening drinks as the sun softens over the gleaming bay.
The interiors are crisp, minimal and achingly cool. Soft wash lighting, flat-screen television and abundant glass characterises the living space. Contemporary art, a chic and neutral palette and quality of finishes with a layout that is both angular but flows give this home individual flavour. State-of-the-art fittings and ultra-edgy styling lend a glamorous note to this home, along with sheets of glass contrasting with raw timber surfaces. An outdoor television space, modern barbecue, outdoor fireplace and an array of choices for outdoor dining make outdoor living a stylish affair.
Taking guests breath away at every turn, there’s a games room with pool table and bar, the baths are inset at floor level. The bedrooms are no less impressive, with the continued connection to nature with glass balustrades meaning unrivalled views of the woods, and abundant natural light thanks to full glass walls, offset with crisp linen and gorgeous hardwood floors.
The glamorous roof terrace is the finishing touch to this dazzling home, with far-reaching sea views it finishes this home off with a majestic flourish!
Villa Antal is nestled in the hamlet Sveti Petar 5km from the centre of Ičići and the sea on the Kvarner Bay. Ičići is in the northeast of Istria, close to the base of the Ucka mountain and the Ucka National Park, just north of the beautiful Moscenika Draga region.
Northern Istria is known for having a strong Italian flavour, sumptuous seafood, small-town charm and stunning coastal scenery, whilst the Istrian Riviera, on the northeast coast is a history-rich region which formerly drew the Austrian-Hungarian elite. Istria boasts arguably three of Croatia’s prettiest towns, Rovinj with its romantic harbour, Opatija with its old-world glamour and Pula with its magnificent Roman amphitheatre.
Opatija (9km further north) is known for its elegant style and beautiful sea views - the riviera as it is known as. The ‘lungomare’ is the 12-km seaside promenade, constructed in 1889, which stretches all the way to Lovran, winding its way past the belle-epoque villas that are reminiscent of the town’s glamorous credentials as a destination for the jet-set.
Ucka Nature Park is a hidden gem, and at 160km² of mountains and green open plateaux it is a beautifully remote spot of Croatia; on clear days, Vojak (1401m), its highest peak, offers sublime views of the Italian Alps and the Bay of Trieste. Moscenicka Draga is a small, coastal town just south of the Ucka national park, known for its beautiful pebble beach and serene surroundings
Bresec (about half an hour further south on the coast) is a pretty medieval town with a striking 2km long pebble beach. A walk up to the 15th-century church of St. Magdalena, which is famous for its frescos, will reward visitors with stunning views of the surrounding area, the town’s charming harbour and islands.
Awash with history and fresh, affordable cuisine, Pula, the capital of Istria, boasts stretches of glittering Adriatic coastland and the most complete Roman colosseum in the world. It is known for its charming seaside atmosphere and elegant Italian architecture along with bustling markets. Summertime brings a lively blend of music events, open-air theatre and festivals with a colourful display of local life.
