Chateau de Jaques is a beautiful 17th Century Monument Historique set in 10 hectares of lovely gardens and wooded grounds with its own private chapel.
Nestled in the stunning Champagne region, it is also conveniently located only 1 and half hour by train from Paris. In addition, the closest village and restaurants are within a walking distance from the estate.
The gardens were designed by Le Notre, who was a famous garden architect in his day and well known for the gardens he created at Versailles. The chateau has had an interesting past: it was visited by Charles II whilst he was in exile and occupied by the Germans during World War II. Now it has been restored, sympathetically decorated and furnished using traditional colours and antiques.
There are a lot of open fireplaces to relax in front of in winter and some pretty spots in the grounds where you can relax away sunny afternoons. For the more active, there is a small beach on the Marne River, just 200 yards or so away, tennis in the village, plenty of lovely walks and cycle paths to explore and horse riding close by.
The resident owners are on hand to give you any information about the area or to prepare breakfasts or other meals if you wish. The guests see as much or as little of the owners as they choose as they have a completely private wing of the chateau with no shared facilities.
The whole property can sleep groups of up to 12, 23 and 32 in the chateau, its annex tower and gatehouse.
The chateau is located in a small village within walking distance of the local restaurant. The closest shops are a 5 minute drive away, and include a boulangerie, pharmacy and 'corner shop'. The lovely old town of Chalons en Champagne is about a 10 minute drive, and there you can find large supermarkets and a covered market three times a week. Here you will also find the Grande Romaine golf course. The cathedral city of Reims is about 30 minutes away. Disneyland and Paris itself are within an hour and a half by TGV. The Chateau is a three hour drive from Calais and just under two hours from the Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.
The Chateau is in the heart of Champagne country, and the 'route de champagne' takes you through some pretty villages where you can taste and buy champagne and wine from both small family owned producers and from the biggest champagne houses in the world.
