Wisteria Cottage holds a wonderful location nestled amongst beautiful Somerset countryside, set in a quiet spot on a private road, guests of the cottage will enjoy peace and quiet with a number of lovely walking and cycling routes reachable on foot directly from the doorstep! While the location is ideal for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life, the town of Ilminster with its helpful amenities, including shops and restaurants, is less than a five-minute car journey away.
In recent years, the Grade II listed cottage has been lovingly modernised and today boasts contemporary interiors and elegant furnishings throughout, while managing to retain its original character and charm. Wisteria Cottage can comfortably accommodate up to six adults and two additional children across its four well-appointed bedrooms.
On the ground floor is the warm and welcoming living space which comprises of an open-plan kitchen and dining area, a cosy lounge with wood-burning stove as well as the first of the bedrooms, a super-king double room, which can be set up with twin beds on request, and an en-suite wet room. Upstairs on the first floor are a further two bedrooms, the first, a super-king four-poster room and en-suite bathroom with freestanding nickel bath and walk-in shower. The second, a superking double room with en-suite shower room, provides access to the fourth and final bedroom, a twin room, together these rooms are ideally suited to a family with young children.
Outside, the children will love running around and playing games on the lawn. The sunken patio area which comes complete with dining facilities and a charcoal barbecue makes the perfect spot to dine al fresco on a sunny evening!
Wisteria Cottage is located on a private road, with only one other manor house sharing access. The road is a bridleway and footpath and leads to a large area of parkland, leading onto a variety of other walking and cycling routes – perfect for families who want to enjoy the great outdoors!
There are a selection of excellent pubs in the vicinity, such as the Dinnington Docks, Lord Poulett Arms, or Five Dials. We also recommend the micro-brewery at Stocklinch – Stocklinch Ales – which is open for visitors on Friday evenings after 7pm and Sunday lunchtimes.
Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, is nearby, as is Dillington House. The Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp are also very close and worth a visit, for the tea rooms as much as anything else.
There are several local cider producers whose orchards and presses are worth seeing, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake being one, and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill another.
A little further away the beach at Lyme Regis and walks along the Jurassic coastline are 40mins or so to the South, and the Hauser and Wirth gallery near Bruton is 40 mins or so to the East.
