The Gardener’s Cottage, in its stunning rural estate setting is the perfect holiday accommodation for those looking for a cosy country retreat, just a short drive from Suffolk’s celebrated heritage coast. This uniquely styled four bedroom cottage can sleep up to twelve guests – with a maximum of six adults across three double bedrooms, and a bunk room that can comfortably sleep up to six children. This former gardener’s cottage, built into the wall that surrounds the estates original flower and vegetable garden, retains original architectural design features such as gothic round-headed ogee mouldings and round-headed windows, and its elevated position means it overlooks woodland and hedgerows.
The Gardener’s Cottage is just as picturesque inside as it is out, with a cosy homely feel. Entering into the large family kitchen which is decorated in natural tones of stone and light clay, you’ll notice the vast skylight that floods the room with light, and bespoke cabinets and zinc-covered dining table add a unique look to the whole room. The kitchen features a large professional range cooker, butler sink and dishwasher, as well as Nespresso coffee machine for that much lauded morning cup of coffee!
Through to the living room and the first thing you’ll notice is its quirky design and plush cosy interior. This room features an unusual carved open fireplace, inspired by the ‘Green Man’ from Suffolk mythology. Driftwood tables and natural stone flooring are offset beautifully by chunky dusky pink sofas and brightly patterned cushions and throws in a variety of luxurious shades and textures. This cosy living area features a hidden flat screen HD LED TV, and a selection of board games for your entertainment, as well as dimmable lighting and underfloor heating, to add extra ambience.
The Gardener’s Cottage is a ground floor property making it ideal for those with children or mobility issues – although this does mean it will be harder to decide which stunning bedroom to choose! There are 3 double bedrooms, two featuring an in-room freestanding roll top bath, and the third an en-suite shower room. All the rooms have king size hypnos beds and offer incredible woodland views. The spacious bunk room with en-suite offers a unique space for children or young adults to stay. Light and airy this room makes the most of the space with sturdy wooden bunks dressed in crisp white linen and plump cushions.
Outside guests can enjoy stunning views and some of the cleanest air in England. Just a short drive from all of the wonderful offerings of suffolk and its heritage coast, The Gardener’s Cottage is surrounded by acres of beautiful grounds, including lakes and woodland. All guests staying at properties on the estate have the opportunity to hire bicycles if they don’t wish to explore by foot, or rowing boats and paddle boards to take out on the serpentine lake. The closest coastal resorts of Aldeburgh and Southwold are both just a 20-minute car journey away, whether you choose to sample fish & chips in Aldeburgh or take a stroll along Southwold’s Pier, a fantastic day out is guaranteed. Southwold is home to the Adnam’s Brewery & Gin Distillery, one of the most modern breweries in the world, book a tour to discover just how they produce their beer or gin and enjoy a yummy sample at the end! Estate RangerEnjoy a 2-hour guided tour through the Estate’s parklands and woodlands, led by one of the specialist rangers. The walk begins at 8am, or earlier if preferred, when the dawn chorus is quietening so individual songbirds can be heard. This is when songbirds are most active and is a beautifully peaceful time of day to appreciate the Suffolk landscape and learn to identify birdsongs with the help of one of the expert Rangers. During the spring and early summer months the Estate is alive with birdsong. Gardener’s Cottage holds an excellent position within the Belsay Tower Estate, set within tranquil surroundings and beautifully-kept gardens, it makes the perfect bolthole for those in search of a truly relaxing break. While guests will feel a million miles away from any hustle and bustle, there are a huge variety of excellent attractions and amenities within easy reaching distance, including the wonderful Northumberland coastline and the lively city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
The Grade-I listed courtyard cottage, which was originally built for the Head Gardener, can comfortably accommodate up to six guests across its three well-appointed bedrooms. On the ground floor is the main living accommodation which comprises of a cosy sitting room and a spacious kitchen-diner, fully-equipped with all the tools you could possibly need. Also on this level is the first of the bedrooms, a double. Upstairs, there is a second double room, while the third bedroom can be set up as either a double or twin room on request, making it ideal for friends or siblings to share. The bedrooms share the use of two family shower rooms and a separate cloakroom.
Outside, guests of Gardener’s Cottage have access to an outdoor barbecue area, perfect during the Summer months!Gardener’s Cottage is located within Belsay Tower Estate, nestled amongst Northumberland countryside, close to the villages of Bolam and Belsay, where helpful amenities including a post office and coffee shop can be found. There is plenty to see, do and explore within the immediate area including Belsay Hall, Castle & Gardens, owned by English Heritage and Wallington House, owned by the National Trust, both make for lovely days out and are less than 15-minutes away. The whole family will enjoy a visit to Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens, home to over one hundred species of animals including lemurs, meerkats, wallabies and monkeys and just 15-minutes from home.
The cottage makes a fabulous choice for those simply wanting to enjoy the great outdoors, being surrounded by countryside, there is plenty of brilliant walking opportunities as well as cycling routes and bridleways. Bolam Lake Country Park has lakeside walks, woodland tracks, open grassed areas for all to enjoy making it perfect for picnics and is just 5-minutes away.
Further afield, Alnwick Castle is just 50-minutes away and is a must-visit for any Harry Potter fans while the iconic Hadrian’s Wall, the Roman’s biggest British building project that still dominates the county’s landscape almost 2,000 years after it was built, is just an hour away. For beach bums, Northumberland’s coastline is truly stunning, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it stretches for 40 miles and is a must-visit, Bamburgh Castle, Druridge Bay, Holy Island and the Farne Islands are all spots we recommend exploring. The coastline can be reached in less than 40-minutes from the cottage.

Gardener’s Cottage is such a pretty cottage for couples wanting to enjoy lush countryside and the gorgeous beaches of Cornwall’s south coast. This one bedroom, single storey, idyllic retreat is nestled on the gorgeous three and a half acre Tremaine Manor Estate. It is a beautiful, characterful property with exposed stone walls, wooden beams, a crackling fire and some lovely outside space. The elegant bedroom can be set up as a twin room or with the beds together forming a sumptuous and roomy super kingsize bed. If you do this there is room for a cot should you be bringing a bundle of joy with you.
The Tremaine Manor & Country Cottages Estate is absolutely wonderful, a rural paradise and oasis of gracious and glorious living, deep in the Cornish countryside. The estate enjoys a fabulous, tranquil location and is just ten minutes from the picturesque harbour village of Looe. The village is a centre of offshore shark fishing as well as boasting a gorgeous sandy beach, crabbing on the quayside, quaint cobbled streets, charming independent shops and an abundance of restaurants and pubs serving handmade Cornish pasties and gourmet seafood. Looe is very popular and it is easy to understand why many visitors return year after year. The South West Coastal Path, Britain’s longest National Trail, passes through the village and Bodmin Moor is on the doorstep with its granite tors, plentiful streams, waterfalls, moorland ponies, pretty heather and wild beauty. Gardener’s Cottage is within easy reach of of the pretty town of Fowey and the atmospheric, quaint village of Polperro which dates back to the thirteenth century and is one of the oldest villages in Cornwall.
Gardener’s Cottage is set within beautiful landscaped gardens looking very smart and inviting. It has its own private front garden with lovely wrought iron furniture for a spot of alfresco dining. There is a firepit for chilly evenings. The cottage enjoys an open plan living and dining room, a fabulous shaker style country kitchen, a bathroom with a bath and overhead shower and its charming, romantic bedroom. The living room is a total delight where you can snuggle up on the leather sofa or wing backed chair to enjoy a toasty fire, a movie on the television or to sing along to the Bluetooth speaker. Featuring gorgeous ceiling beams, an exposed stone wall and a wonderful feature fireplace, it is the perfect spot to relax. There is a country dining table at the far end which leads into the wonderful kitchen. This is beautifully finished in mellow, elegant tones and offers excellent appliances including a Nespresso coffee machine. Guests staying in Gardener’s Cottage enjoy a welcome hamper, board games and playing cards and a first basket of logs.
The bedroom is another characterful space with flexible sleeping arrangements and pretty garden views. You can dive into crisp cottons, a fluffy duvet and luxury throws to enjoy the sleep of kings. The bathroom is perfect for those that love a good soak and those that prefer a shower.

A separate laundry room with a washing machine and dryer is available in another building on the estate.Gardener’s Cottage is located on the three and a half acre Tremaine Manor Estate. It is a fabulous place to stay amongst landscaped gardens, woodland and a stream though within easy reach of the south coast beaches and the moors.
As well as being a working fishing port, Looe is a top pick with holiday makers with wonderful eateries, Cornish pasty shops, a beautiful beach and some excellent, unique shops. Visitors enjoy watching crabbers on the quayside and the colourful fishing boats returning with their catches. Looe boasts many local gourmet restaurants overlooking the harbour as well as award winning fish and chips near the river. There is a pretty bridge that separates East and West Looe. The Looe Marine Conservation Group host regular rockpool rambles for children of all ages. Their website gives details of the wildlife events and local family friendly adventures such as crabbing, snorkeling, bird watching, fishing and visits to Looe Island. Looe Island was once a holy pilgrimage site. Now it is a sanctuary for wildlife and rare plants. In 2004 Looe Island was left to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust by Babs Atkins who had bought the island with her sister in the 1960’s. You will discover a grey seal population sunbathing on the rocks and swimming around the island. The island is home to many nesting birds such as cormorants, shags and oystercatchers. It boasts the largest breeding colony in Cornwall of the majestic great black-backed gull. During the summer months there are frequent boat trips and guided walks. The Old Sardine Factory Heritage Centre tells the story of Looe’s maritime history. You will learn how Looe exported pilchards to Italy, sent pilgrims to Galicia and sailed across the Atlantic to catch cod off of Newfoundland. You will also learn about boat building and experience a lifeboat Shout! with state-of-the-art technology. The centre is also a climbing wall and kayaking centre. If you fancy a scenic day out but don’t want to drive, you can take the Looe Valley train line to the historic market town of Liskeard. There are stunning views though heavily wooded valleys teeming with wildlife, glorious estuary views and rivers full of wading birds such as little egrets, grey herons, oystercatchers and curlews. Looe’s Music Festival is fast becoming a very popular outdoor event attracting many famous artists such as Jools Holland, Bryan Ferry, Lulu, the Stranglers and many more.
Visitors looking for a day by the sea have a wonderful choice of beaches. In Looe, East Looe Beach is very popular with families. Millendreath Beach is a gorgeous south facing sandy beach at the foot of a wooded valley. Just around the corner is Plaidy Beach, a small, sheltered beach which is wonderful if you are looking to chill with some peace and quiet. Talland Bay is between Looe and Polperro. It is made up of two coves and is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Seaton Beach is also close, to the east of Looe. It is situated at the foot of the Hessenford Valley with the River Seaton crossing the beach. Hoodny Cove and Finnygook Beach are accessible from Portwrinkle Beach, both sandy and popular with families. Finnygook is a surfers favourite. Other popular beaches are Polperro, Whitsand Bay and Downderry Beach.
Bodmin Moor is one of Cornwall’s designated Areas of Outstanding Beauty. With its giant stretches of heather, this upland granite moorland is delightful. It is brimming with high granite tors, streams and waterfalls and you will probably get to see the moorland ponies grazing.
The stunning South West Coast Path passed through Looe. Starting in Minehead in Somerset, it covers 630 miles ending in Poole in Dorset. It offers extraordinary sea views and is very popular. There are also countless walks in the beautiful countryside surrounding Looe. You may want to walk around Fowey where you can enjoy seeing Menabilly, once the home of Daphne du Maurier and the inspiration for Manderley in her novel Rebecca. Fowey is a popular sailing destination and a quaint deep-water fishing port. There is a ferry service to the pretty village of Polruan opposite. Walking from Polruan towards Polperro you will pass the beautiful Lantic Bay and the horseshoe shaped West Coombe at Lansallos. Polperro is a gorgeous, quintessential Cornish fishing village with steep narrow streets, pretty slate cottages and stunning views. Sheltered from the ravages of tide and time in its dramatic cliff ravine, Polperro is an enchanting jumble of cottages, all the work of Cornish fishermen. The 36 mile walk from Looe to Boscastle is wonderful, crossing Bodmin Moor via Davidstow, Rough Tor and Brown Willy and passing through the verdant West Looe Valley. The Deerpark Forest is also another treat with many trails running through the woodland.
