High-altitude chalets with ski-in ski-out access, glacier skiing and the whole of the Espace Killy on the doorstep
As featured in
Tignes is built for skiers who put snow first. Its main villages sit at around 2,100 metres, higher than most Alpine resorts, and the Grande Motte glacier above them adds reliable skiing at the very start and end of the season. What it may lack in old-world charm, it makes up for with lifts that start outside the front door and a ski area shared with Val d'Isère.
Our Tignes collection runs to 110+ chalets and apartments, from ski-in ski-out chalets in Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret to quieter houses lower down at Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières. Many have saunas or hot tubs, and the larger chalets come catered.
Here is how the different parts of Tignes compare, and when to go.

Tignes Le Lac is the heart of the resort, set around a lake that freezes in winter and hosts ice activities, with lifts, shops and restaurants close together. Val Claret, a little further up, is the closest village to the Grande Motte funicular and a favourite with keen skiers. Le Lavachet sits between the two.
Lower down the valley, Tignes 1800 and Les Brévières are smaller and quieter, with more traditional chalets and pistes that wind through the trees, which is welcome on a stormy day when the high slopes are flat-lit.

Tignes shares the Espace Killy with Val d'Isère, a vast high area with long blue cruising runs, demanding blacks and famous off-piste for those with a guide. The Grande Motte glacier rises above Val Claret, and its altitude makes Tignes one of the most reliable places in the Alps for snow in late November and again in early May.
Tignes also hosted freestyle events at the 1992 Albertville Olympics and has kept its reputation for snow parks and freeride, so teenagers tend to be very happy here.

Away from the pistes, Tignes offers ice diving beneath the frozen lake, ice skating, snowshoeing, a large leisure centre with pools and spa, and husky rides. Evenings are relaxed, with plenty of bars and restaurants in Le Lac and Val Claret.
The season usually runs from late November to early May. Early and late season are excellent value, February brings the school holiday crowds, and March offers a good balance of snow, sunshine and space. Our concierge can arrange transfers, ski hire, lessons and lift passes.
