Villas in Indonesia

Seventeen thousand islands, and one that keeps calling people back

Indonesia spreads across more than seventeen thousand islands, but for a villa holiday one of them matters most. Bali is a Hindu island in a mostly Muslim country. It has temple ceremonies most days, offerings of flowers and rice on every doorstep, and a culture of hospitality that makes even a long flight seem worth it.

Our Indonesian collection runs to 220+ villas, all on Bali. They range from walled tropical villas with private pools in Seminyak and Canggu to clifftop houses above the Indian Ocean at Uluwatu and quiet retreats among the paddy fields near Ubud. The largest has 12 bedrooms.

Here is how the island divides up, when to come and how to get there.

Where to stay in Indonesia

Seminyak for restaurants and sunset beaches, Canggu and Pererenan for surf and a younger crowd, Uluwatu for clifftop villas and secluded coves, and Ubud for rice terraces, temples and cooler air.

Seminyak & Canggu

Sunsets, surf and a very long lunch

Bali's west coast is where most visitors end up, and with good reason. Seminyak has the island's best concentration of restaurants, boutiques and beach clubs, and the beach faces west, so evenings come with sunsets. The sea temple at Petitenget sits right on the sand.

Canggu, a little further up the coast, began as a surf village and still has surf breaks at Batu Bolong and Echo Beach, along with a café scene that runs from breakfast to cocktails. Pererenan, next door, is quieter. Inland, Dalung and Kerobokan give you more space and garden for the money, and the sea temple of Tanah Lot is a short drive north.

Uluwatu & the Bukit

Limestone cliffs above the Indian Ocean

The Bukit peninsula, at Bali's southern tip, is drier and more rugged than the rest of the island, and its villas tend to sit high on the cliffs with long views out to sea. Steps lead down to coves such as Bingin and Padang Padang, which are favourites with surfers and swimmers alike.

Pura Luhur Uluwatu, one of the island's most important sea temples, stands on a cliff edge, and the Kecak fire dance is performed there at sunset. Afterwards, the seafood grills on the beach at Jimbaran make a fine, unfussy dinner.

Ubud & the Interior

Rice terraces, temples and cooler evenings

Ubud, in the hills about an hour or more from the coast depending on traffic, is Bali's cultural heart. It has a royal palace, nightly dance performances, galleries, craft villages and a Sacred Monkey Forest whose residents should be watched closely around sunglasses. The Campuhan Ridge walk is best done early, before the heat.

Bali's subak, the centuries-old system of water temples and irrigated rice terraces, is listed by UNESCO. Both the terraces at Jatiluwih and the temple of Taman Ayun in Mengwi are part of that listing.

Food & the Seasons

Babi guling, ceremonies and the dry months

Balinese cooking is worth seeking out alongside the international restaurants. Try babi guling, a spit-roast suckling pig, or bebek betutu, duck slow-cooked in spiced leaves, or simply a plate of nasi campur from a local warung.

The dry season, from around April to October, brings the most reliable sunshine. July and August are busiest, so book early. The wet months bring short, heavy downpours, greener landscapes and fewer people. Our concierge can arrange airport transfers, drivers for temple days, private chefs, Balinese massage at your villa and restaurant tables in Seminyak.

Why book your Indonesia villa with Excellence Luxury Villas

The right house, not the nearest one

Bali's traffic and narrow lanes can turn a short distance into a long drive, so we know which villas are a stroll from the beach or the restaurants and which are worth the extra quiet. With 220+ properties in Indonesia, we can usually find the house that suits you rather than the one that happens to be free. Search by size, pool, location and price, or tell us what you have in mind and we will put together a shortlist.

Book direct

You book with us directly, with no booking fees. Questions about access, parking, pool heating or how far it really is to the nearest beach go to people who can find out the answer.

A concierge who knows the territory

Airport transfers, private drivers for temple and rice terrace days, private chefs, in-villa Balinese massage, surf lessons, restaurant reservations and help planning around Nyepi. Our concierge team arranges all of it, leaving you free to decide which terrace to sit on.

A house for every kind of party

Couples, families with small children, three generations together or a crowd of friends celebrating a birthday: we match the house to the group, down to the number of bathrooms and whether the pool is fenced.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the best place to stay in Bali?

Seminyak suits those who want restaurants and beach clubs nearby. Canggu and Pererenan are best for surf and a relaxed café life, Uluwatu for clifftop villas and quieter coves, and Ubud for culture, rice terraces and a cooler climate. Many guests split their stay between the coast and Ubud.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

The dry season, from around April to October, has the most dependable weather, and July and August are the busiest months. The wet season brings tropical showers, which tend to be heavy but brief, along with lush scenery and quieter roads.

What is Nyepi, and does it affect my holiday?

Nyepi is the Balinese Day of Silence, which marks the Hindu new year and usually falls in March. For 24 hours the whole island goes quiet. The airport closes and guests are expected to stay within their villa, so plan your arrival and departure around it. The night before brings colourful processions of ogoh-ogoh effigies, which are well worth seeing.

Can you arrange a private chef at a villa in Indonesia?

Yes. Our concierge can arrange a private chef for a single dinner or your whole stay, along with cookery lessons, guided visits, transfers and restaurant reservations.

How much does a luxury villa in Indonesia cost?

Across our 220+ villas in Indonesia, weekly rates typically range from £2,300 to £6,000, with the most affordable from around £1,900 a week and the largest estates well above. Prices depend on the size of the property, its location and the season, with July and August the most expensive. These are guide prices based on current listings; each property page shows its own rates for your dates.

How do I get to Bali from the UK?

There are no direct flights from the UK. Most travellers connect through a hub such as Singapore, Doha or Dubai, landing at Ngurah Rai International Airport near Denpasar. Seminyak and Canggu are usually under an hour from the airport by road, depending on traffic, and Ubud takes longer. Our concierge can arrange private transfers.

Are there villas in Indonesia for large groups?

Yes. Our Indonesia collection includes properties with up to 12 bedrooms. Tell us the size of your party and the occasion, and we will send a shortlist that suits it.
