Nestled on the Route du Petit Alaska, within a few minutes’ walk of Val d’Isere’s main high street, Chalet Mare is a fabulous ski property for fourteen guests. It offers a wonderful blend of Savoyard chalet style together with sleek, modern touches. The villa enjoys some special treats including a spa with a hot tub and steam room, perfect for relaxing after a busy day on the ski slopes. The chalet is an upside down property with the living spaces at the top of the chalet and the bedrooms on the lower floors. Another plus point of this chalet is the private lift that takes you between its four floors, ideal for anyone with impaired mobility. The chalet’s location is wonderful, very close to a free ski bus and the town’s historical centre and brilliant for apres-ski in the numerous characterful bars and restaurants. Guests staying at the chalet have use of a free shuttle service to drop you off and pick you up from the lifts each day and a contactless catered chalet experience with options for an a la carte service.
Val d’Isere enjoys a reputation as one of Europe’s most prestigious ski resorts. Together with the next door ski area of Tignes, the area of Espace Killy offers an impressive number of pistes and lifts, not to mention breathtaking panorama with its dramatic Grande Motte glacier. The resort is brilliant for all levels with nursery pistes, magic carpets and excellent ski instructors for beginners. The resort offers gondolas with heated seats, Wi-Fi, a number of luxury spas, a wonderful leisure centre, a fabulous array of high-end boutiques and a fantastic night life.
With seven bedrooms, Chalet Mare is perfect for two or three families, groups of friends or family get togethers. The top floor living space is delightful, a cosy nest where you can relax in the evenings or on return from the slopes with mugs of hot chocolate or glasses of wine. With gorgeous beams, a vaulted ceiling, squishy sofas, a fabulous, roaring, contemporary log burner and alpine charm, it is a gorgeous space where the whole group can get together. With Wi-Fi and a television it is a wonderful spot for a movie night. The open plan kitchen and dining room is a fabulous social space with a huge dining table, modern chandeliers and a modern, semi-professional kitchen. This offers stainless steel work surfaces, excellent appliances, a Nespresso coffee machine and a coffee percolator. Guests enjoy access to a balcony on this level. The contactless catered service offered at the chalet includes provisions for daily breakfasts, afternoon snacks and six evening meals including pre-dinner nibbles. The meals are delicious, coming from Savoyard delicatessens, supermarkets and long standing partners and prepared by expert chefs. Drinks are part of the package too and include hot drinks, juices, beer, red and white wine and Crème de Cassis for pre-dinner cocktails. The hot and cold breakfasts, cakes, biscuits, clementines, fruit, nuts, crisps, aperitif crackers and three course dinners are delicious. Everything is very simple to put together taking little effort and no menu planning or shopping. Dishes can simply be put in the oven to be heated through. Your fridges and cupboards will be stocked before your arrival and re-filled during your stay. If the likes of pumpkin soup, goat’s cheese salads, French charcuterie, chicken in a red wine sauce, hake with rice and vegetable gratin, duck in a cep mushroom sauce, French Normandy apple tart, lemon tart or chocolate brownies don’t do it for you, there is another a la carte option for an extra charge. You can tailor-make your holiday meals from lists of dishes prepared by a local Savoyard delicatessen or from a local shopping list to suit your budget and appetites. Of course, there are also options for vegans and vegetarians.
Chalet Mare’s seven bedrooms are located on the lower first and second floors. They are stylish, comfy nests which feature crisp cottons and lovely soft furnishings, lots of wood and well-maintained ensuite bathrooms. There is nothing like a comfy bed to rest your weary limbs after a hard day’s skiing! The bedrooms on the lower first floor are comprised of a double room and three twin bedrooms. They all enjoy access to a balcony and all have their own ensuite bathroom. Some come with just showers and others boast baths or baths and showers. They all come with fluffy towels and bathrobes. The lower second floor is home to a very spacious double room and two twin bedrooms. Again they offer balcony access and ensuite bathrooms. Chalet Mare also offers a ski and boot room, complete with a heated boot drier.
The lowest level of the chalet is home to the spa area with its jacuzzi, shower and steam room. It is such a treat when you get back in from the slopes!

The town’s authentic atmosphere, gorgeous historic centre, endless chocolate-box chalets, unique boutiques and fantastic bars and eateries make it a hot spot for skiers and summer walkers. It is nestled in a valley and is linked with the mighty Tignes, offering a massive ski playground. Val d’Isere’s snowfall record is brilliant with skiing usually staying open until the end of the season at the beginning of May. The centre of Val d’Isere is a bustling high street which is surrounded by a number of small hamlets including Le Cret, Le Joseray, Le Chatelard, La Legettaz and Le Laisinant.
The Espace Killy area including Tignes is the birthplace of the Olympic skier Jean-Claude Killy. Its connections and advanced ski infrastructure is excellent with more than 3400 km of pistes and 99 lifts. As well as the Grande Motte glacier which offers 20 km of summer ski runs, it also boasts the challenging black-rated piste, Face de Bellevarde with its 915 m drop. Its height altitude from 1850 m to 3400 m guarantees some of the best snow in Europe. The ski area is perfect for all levels of skiers with its mythical slopes, almighty challenges and its quiet ski areas for beginners and children. The Valkids area and Valpark, a brilliant snow park are welcome additions for families. Passes can be bought for any number of days as well as for those that do not want to ski. Family passes are also available. Pedestrians do not have to miss out on the stunning views and family lunches on the slopes as they can access many lifts including the Solaise gondola, the Pim Pam carpet, the Poum carpet, the Vallon gondola, the Funival, the Daille gondola, the Olympique cable car, the Fornet cable car and the Bellevarde chairlift. The resort operates some brilliant ski schools.
Once your ski day is finished, Val’d’Isere is a great place for a wander, for evening entertainment and for shopping. It is picturesque with a 17th century church in the centre and delightful, characterful shops, restaurants and bars. It is a known party destination with La Folie Douce being one of it main evening attractions. For those that don’t ski or want a day off, there are some excellent spas and a brilliant leisure centre. During the summer, Val d’Isere enjoys fabulous biking and hiking trails and the wonderful Vanoise National Park.
