Rent Villa Marateca Portugal
Rental Description
Located in the quaint farming community of Cajados, this five-bedroom, three-bathroom villa is close to the nearby city of Setúbal and only a thirty-five-minute drive from Lisbon.
Is there a better way to feel like you’re finally on holiday than walking barefoot across stone tiles in your homely Portuguese villa? These are just one of many natural touches which dot the property’s interior, and bringing the Mediterranean inside the house was a priority for the owners. Earth-coloured tiles and the azure blue outdoor pool decor are just two features that create a relaxed and warm ambience and make the house a perfect place to relax and recharge.
Entering the twenty-year-old family property, you’ll be enveloped by the brightly lit interior, marries Mediterranean touches with homely decor. The villa gets plenty of natural light, and large windows throughout the house mean you’ll be bathed in vitamin D all day.
The living area is spacious and comfortable, with a large sofa and two armchairs to lounge on. There are also two large bookcases, a working fireplace and a TV, so keeping everyone entertained during your stay will be easy.
When it comes to the kitchen and dining area, the owner has valued style as well as comfort. A long wooden dining table and ten chairs make up the dining area. There’s an adjoining lounge with two comfortable sofas, a working fireplace and a coffee table where guests love to relax after their evening meal.
The stylish interior continues into the kitchen. Yellow tiles and dark woods create a stunning aesthetic, and the kitchen has been designed to bring people together. The large island space in the centre has two seats looking onto the cooking space, and the kitchen is fully equipped, boasting a microwave, fridge freezer, coffee maker, Nespresso machine, dishwasher and hot air oven.
There are four bedrooms downstairs, and whether you choose one of the three twins or the double room, you can enjoy kicking back and relaxing thanks to the tasteful decoration, natural colours and luxurious, comfortable beds. Upstairs is the fifth double bedroom, which is ensuite and has a balcony and pool views.
If dining al-fresco is your thing, there’s an outdoor dining area where you can eat, drink and entertain during the warm evenings. The villa has a bbq, and there’s a large pool where guests love to spend hours topping up their tans on the sun loungers. It’s a smallish neighbourhood with few neighbours, so privacy will be no issue here.

The villa is nestled among the scenery of Cajados, a quaint farming hamlet enjoyed for its proximity to Setúbal.
Though lesser known than other Portuguese cities, Setúbal offers many things to do. City lovers will relish catching up in Portuguese city life and wandering the historic centre. Strolling the iconic black and white cobbles of the narrow streets, visitors will be wowed by the colours of the buildings against the vast blue sky and the abundance of history.
The 16th-century Monastery of Jesus and the São Julião Church are notable landmarks, and visitors can look inside to admire the gilded interior.
A firm favourite among locals is the Mercado do Livramento. The traditional market dates back to 1876, and visitors can browse the many stalls offering fruit and vegetables, seafood, baked goods and arts and crafts. It also makes the bold claim of having the best seafood in the world, and we don’t think there’s any harm in putting this to the test! Speaking of seafood, Setúbal is also known for its local speciality, choco frito (fried cuttlefish), which can be found in many local eateries.
Wine enthusiasts will be pleased to find themselves close to the Setúbal Peninsula wine region. The area is particularly known for muscats, but the region is also famous for red, oaky wines, and there’s no shortage of eateries to pair your drinks with.
For a break from city life, visitors are spoiled for choice when it comes to exploring the mountains, beaches and natural parks which surround the city.
Arrábida Natural Park is a protected area stretching 18 miles of coastline and ending in the popular Portuguese resort town of Sesimbra. Visitors can explore one of the many hiking trails within the park and take in the ocean views and the pristine beaches.
Portugal’s second-largest estuary is only a fifteen-minute drive away. The Sado Estuary has a rich ecosystem and boasts several natural features, such as white sand beaches, dunes, and marshes. Keen bird watchers will be delighted to find more than 200 species of birds, and wildlife lovers will enjoy spotting foxes, badgers, otters, and the Roaz do Sado dolphins.
