Holiday Makeup

I’m always torn on holiday. Half of me wants to pack the kitchen sink, get glammed up to the nines and hit the town, the other half of me wants to kick back, wear my scruffiest, most comfortable clothes, let my hair go au naturel and not bother with a scrap of make up. Over the years I’ve found a happy medium on all fronts, (it’s good to switch off and relax, but that wardrobe of beautiful clothes aren’t going to take themselves out you know) and found a snappy make up routine that literally takes about a minute, thanks to some really hard working products. This is my short-list of holiday makeup essentials:
Tom Ford Soleil Blanc Shimmering Body Oil
This doubles up as a light, silky moisturiser, and a subtle perfume with the tropical scent of white florals, amber and sandalwood with just the right amount of gold shimmer to make your tan really sparkle.
Benefit Boing Industrial Strength Concealer and Watts Up duo.
Don’t bother with foundation in all that heat, just cover up any redness or shadows with a touch of Boing – which is thick enough to cover the most stubborn of blemishes – then use the lovely Watts Up part of this little pot to highlight your cheekbones, cupids bow and bridge of your nose.
NARS Laguna/Orgasm Duo
Another great travel-sized compact containing two essentials. Orgasm is a coral-y blusher that suits everybody and Laguna is one of the best selling bronzers on the market. Bronze up as needed (hopefully not too much if the sun has got his hat on) not forgetting to blend it down your neck. Laguna is great for contouring too, you don’t need to use a separate colour for this. Add a flush of Orgasm to your cheekbones and hit that beach bar.
E.L.F. Translucent Mattifying Powder
Sleek, small, and with just a teeny amount of light-reflectivity. Add this after your concealer and before your bronzer, blush and highlighter. – Essential to tame any ‘glow’ that has turned to ‘shine’ if it is hot and humid.
Benefit Gimme Brow mini eyebrow gel
Super-quick and foolproof, again coming in a super-dinky travel size. Use the wand to brush through your brows for instant fullness and definition.
Tom Ford Cream & Powder Eyeshadow
Part long-lasting, highly pigmented cream formulation and part shimmery powder. The two parts of this nifty compact can be used alone or together for a variety of finishes and comes in a lovely range of colours to suit your tan. I pat them onto my lids with my ring finger – who wants to faff with brushes when you could be sipping a Margarita watching the sunset?!
Clinique High Impact Waterproof Mascara
Road tested by me: Loads of fullness, soft lashes and really, really budge proof. Can’t really ask for more on holiday, can you?!
Kein Aucoin The Lipgloss in Candlelight
It’s diddy; my favourite shade is neutral and flecked with gold; it’ s lovely and moisturising and stays put. I abandon the fuss of a lipstick that will probably melt in the heat anyway and stick with the simplicity of a gloss. Job done…..now did someone say cocktail??
So that’s it. 8 little products to take you to holiday-glam in a flash. Apart from the Tom Ford, they are all small enough to carry though airport security, and when you return home, you can happily stash them away in your handbag for on the go touch-ups.
Happy Shopping!
