A sunny balcony above the Val de Bagnes
Verbier is built across a south-facing slope at around 1,500 metres, with the Place Centrale at its heart and chalets climbing the hillside above and below. It catches the sun all day, and the views across the valley to the Grand Combin are among the finest of any resort in the Alps.
Chalets on the upper slopes often have ski access, while those near the centre put restaurants and bars a short walk away. Le Châble, in the valley below, is linked to Verbier by gondola and served by train.

Mont Fort, the 4 Vallées and legendary off-piste
Verbier is the hub of the 4 Vallées, a large linked area reaching Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon, topped by Mont Fort at 3,330 metres. The resort is best known for its off-piste, from the famous runs off Mont Gelé and Mont Fort to the steep faces of the Bec des Rosses, where the Freeride World Tour holds its finals each spring.
There is plenty for intermediates too, especially across in Nendaz, but this is a resort that rewards confident skiers and those who hire a guide.
The best après in Switzerland
Verbier's après has a reputation across the Alps, from terrace bars at the foot of the slopes to late nights in the village. For a calmer evening, there are excellent restaurants and chalet dinners cooked by your own chef. In summer, the resort hosts the Verbier Festival, one of Europe's leading classical music festivals.
