Luxury Villa Review – Villa Liccioni

If Italy ranks amongst the most beautiful holiday destinations in Europe (and the world for that matter), then Sardinia is the offshore jewel in the country’s crown. An island of unparalleled natural serenity- a place where dolphins guide lazy boats into harbour and life moves at a snail’s pace- it’s understandable it has long been seen as one of the ultimate vacation hotspots. Not least at the luxury end of the market.
Needless to say, then, we had some seriously high expectations when drawing close to Villa Liccioni, a luxury accommodation offering that was, supposedly, everything we could ask for and more. First impressions will always count for much in this world, and after pulling up outside, nobody in the family was disappointed. The building itself is a modern whitewashed design gem, both nodding to the area’s rural heritage and then somehow combining that farmhouse aesthetic with a kind of Hollywood extravagance, meanwhile the position itself was breathtaking.
From the well manicured gardens we can see unspoilt countryside in every direction, and the glistening waters of the ever-inviting Mediterranean. The house is so close to the seafront, in fact, that you even have private beach access that has you on the sand in minutes. Which, of course, the kids loved. These merits continued through to the heated outdoor pool area (not that we needed that in July- in fact I couldn’t think of anything worse!),  and covered terrace overlooking the shore that made for arguably the best spot we’ve ever enjoyed breakfast. And lunch. And dinner, for that matter.
Which brings us to the small matter of our own personal caterers. Full board was included in our booking price, which might make some shudder with memories of ageing hotels and dull as ditchwater B&Bs, but in this instance nothing could be further from the truth, as vibrant dish after vibrant dish was delivered for us to enjoy thanks to a 24-hour butler service (something that both my wife and I loved).
All in all, then, everything we could have asked for, and then more. The interior is particularly stunning, with all of the three double bedrooms boasting their own living, sitting and dining area including a sun terrace- perfect for when you feel like indulging in some real privacy but have a house full of friends or family. Add to that the beautiful fireplace, which gave the place a real feeling of cosy ambience whenever we got the logs burning, and it’s difficult to think of a more comfortable home from home, and certainly not one in any better location if you value peace, tranquility and the ability to shop (there are some great designer boutiques nearby) without trekking into a town. Not necessarily one for urbanites, then, if I conclude by saying that’s exactly what we were looking for you should hopefully understand quite how much we enjoyed our stay.
