The chateau’s interior has been lovingly restored and refurbished to provide luxury accommodation. The 7 bedrooms, most with en-suite bathrooms, are furnished with a mix of antique and contemporary furniture and decorated to a high standard. There’s also a cottage available to rent if you bring staff or want more flexibility for sleeping arrangements.
You’re just steps from the village of Fongrave, which has a small shop, post office and restaurant. The Lot et Garonne region is famous for plum trees, so make sure to find locally grown prunes dipped in chocolate. In the mood to sightsee? Villeneuve-sur-Lot, a 20-minute drive, has arcaded shops, a historic church and medieval architecture.
This riverside chateau is 45 minutes from the Bergerac airport.
The chateau is walking distance to the village that contains restaurants, shops and bar. It is 45 minutes from Bergerac Airport and 1.5 hours from Bordeaux  Airport.
In the village there is a small restaurant serving very good value meals (approx 18 -20 euros for 3 courses), with a menu that changes daily. The restaurant is only a short walk from the chateau. The Chateau housekeeper is an excellent cook and with prior arrangement she will be happy to cook the occasional meal for all the guests. Various menu choices and prices available on request. There is a large fishing shop close to the town of Villeneuve sur lot which is a 20 min car journey. To fish at the Chateau you must purchase a holiday license: it’s only a few euros and you can buy one at the village shop. We have a small rowing boat for our guests to use, which is ideal for fishing. Or you can fish from the jetty.
The lot et garonne is a beautiful, peaceful region of France. The land is farmed and famous for its plum trees and the production of prunes. Fresh, locally grown produce is available from the farm shop or from the local weekly markets. During July and August the village comes alive with the Thursday evening market, an enjoyable evening of dancing, music and enjoying the delicious local produce. This is an experience not to be missed. You can purchase locally grown and reared food and have it cooked for you straight away. Locals and visitors all dine together on long tables while enjoying an evening of music.
The Chateau is on the banks of the lovely river Lot, which is excellent for fishing and canoeing. The area around the chateau is ideal for cycling and there are many small bastide towns to explore.
The pretty village of Fongrave is just a 5 minute walk from the Chateau. With only 900 occupants the village is traditional and authentic. There is a post office, church and a small shop which stocks the daily necessities along with fresh bread and croissants each morning. Attached to the shop is The Beau-Rivage, a small bar/restaurant serving delicious traditional French food. Babysitting can be organised and paid for locally. In the village there is a small restaurant serving very good value meals (approx 12 -16 euros for 3 courses), with a menu that changes daily. The restaurant is only a short walk from the chateau.
