Chateau De Lauzel France

Chateau/Castle, Cottage/Gite/Farm
| 6 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

Chateau de Lauzel is a six bedroom chateau that sleeps ten guests, found in 24 hectares of arcadian rural woodland that makes up part of the forested valley that extends on its southern boundary to the middle of the Beune River.
In the cliff face to the east of the Chateau is a huge, troglodyte Pigeonnier (a sort of dovecote) which is currently gated and inaccessible to the public. Further up the valley is the location of the Venus de Laussel, a limestone carving of a woman that dates back some 25,000 years. It’s a great place to visit and, as you’d expect, is classified as an artefact of no little historical significance! On the western boundary of the site is the Abri du Cap Blanc, which contains notable Magdalenian friezes and is open to the public.
As the site is set on a hillside which terminates in a steep vertical drop into the valley, the stunning terraces and gardens occur on a series of delightful levels. Outside the wall of the Chateau’s courtyard there is a large,  formal parterre garden with shady seating areas for relaxing and truly appreciating the delicious local wines!
At a lower level and adjacent to the C17th chapel, is the 11x11m D-shaped swimming pool, which is protected by an audible security system.
Chateau De Lauzel is situated in the Dordogne (in the country’s South West) and is 5km away from the village of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil and the canton of Marquay, with the medieval town of Sarlat-la-Caneda just 15km away.
The surrounding area includes many Cro-Magnon sites, and Les Eyzies itself is proud to be a leading world centre of pre-historical artefacts and study. located on the River Vezere, it has a new National Palaeolithic Museum which makes a fascinating day out even if history isn’t really your thing. The world-famous cave of Lascaux is approximately 15 km north east of Les Eyzies.
This is a region of numerous Chateaux and historical abbeys and contains many villages regarded as the most beautiful in France. The region also includes several ‘bastide’ (or ‘fortified’) villages built by the English and French during the 15th century, such as Monpazier and Beaumont.
The local rivers of the Dordogne and the Vezere provide canoeing expeditions and sightseeing river boats. Hot air ballooning, helicopter trips and tourist flights in light aircraft are also offered locally, and will give you a brand new perspective on the beautiful Dordogne landscape.
During the high season, the town of Sarlat offers a wealth of exhibitions, music and events throughout the day and night, together with bustling market days and a huge variety of restaurants and shops.
