The beautiful Chateau Vallee Aveyron sits overlooking the Aveyron Valley. The region is filled with enchanting medieval villages and historic towns to discover, with excellent gastronomy, hiking and sports, there really is something for everyone. The village of La Fouillade is just a few kilometres away, with a delicious bakery, post office for convenience, supermarket, butcher, and more. In fact, you can find most conveniences within a short drive of the château, perfect for picking up the bits and bobs you need during your stay.
Whilst the surrounding nature is beautiful, Les Jardins de Quercy are enchanting and are well worth a visit during your stay. Just a thirty-minute drive away, you can spend hours exploring the vibrant colours and natural wonders of the gardens.
Plenty of amenities and restaurants can be found in the picturesque, historic town of Najac, just 10km away. From markets to concerts, the charming streets of Najac come alive through the summer months, known as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, every street is incredibly picturesque, with medieval architecture, a village château and luscious greenery in every direction you look. The quaint cafes and surrounding countryside are sublime, perfect for sunny afternoons in the south of France.
Saint-Antonin Noble Val, 35 kilometres away is another great place to visit. Rich in history, the town has a popular Sunday morning market that we would recommend. From the town you can hire canoes and kayaks, exploring the breath-taking Aveyron gorges from a different angle. For an adrenaline rush, you can try caving and climbing, as well as mountain biking and tree-top trails!
Surrounded by nature, this region is perfect for outdoor adventures. Whether you enjoy mountain biking, hiking, walking or taking a picnic, the scenery is stunning, making every activity feel special. The region’s lakes and river beaches are brilliant choices for picnics, whilst experienced hikers can follow the famous Chemin de St Jacques which passes to the north. Cycling is extremely popular, although the area is very hilly, so be wary if you are not an experienced cycler! For golf lovers, there is a 9 hole golf course in Villefranche de Rouergue about 15km away.

A relatively new addition to France, the Midi-Pyrénées was created to surround the cultural capital of Toulouse in the late 1970s. You might think that its relative youth would mean the Midi-Pyrénées is short on character or identity, but remember, this is France we’re talking about – the whole country is steeped in history and tradition. Encompassing parts of Gascony, Languedoc, the Gers and several others, you’ll get a varied slice of the whole French experience here, not least if you stay at one of our beautiful chateaux in the Midi-Pyrénées! And if you want to discover the best of what the region has to offer, our Midi-Pyrénées travel guide is here to show you where to go, what to eat and how you can make the best of your break with some amazing activities.
