Chateau Lazerre France
Holiday Home Rental Description
This refined chateau in Languedoc is a wine connoisseur’s paradise! Set within the tiny hilltop village of Lasserre-de-Prouille, the the winemaker Mon Martin is your next door neighbor. Your holiday chateau overlooks rolling fields full of grapevines and sunflowers, stretching out to the snow-capped Pyrenees. In your own garden you can pluck ripe figs from the vine while you dine beside the saltwater swimming pool – pure rural fantasy. When you arrive, you’ll find a welcome hamper so you’ll not be hungry after your travels! Take the time to explore your grand hall, where polished wood panels and original tiling lend an aristocratic air. Climb the stone and iron staircase to bedrooms and throw open the windows to let the country air caress the curtains. For groceries and restaurants, head to Montreal or Fanjeaux just 5 km down the road from your holiday chateau. You’re only 20 minutes from Carcassonne, a medieval village that hosts the closest airport (and golf courses, if you please). The appeal of the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region lies in the experimental nature of the wines – unconstrained by the strict adherence to rules (like in Bordeaux or Champagne), you’ll find interesting blends that may surprise you.
Discounts for smaller groups (fewer than 10) are available outside of high season.
This is the centre of Cathar country, where history abounds. There are castles to visit and views that astonish! The Chateau is only a short trip to the beaches and delightful ports of the Mediterranean or the ski slopes and wonderful walks of the Pyrenees.
Le Chateau is in the midst of the ‘golden triangle’ of Fanjeaux, Limoux and Mirepoix that show the Aude in its best light. The views from Le Chateau are truly stunning with layers of vine covered hills framed by the backdrop of the snow capped Pyrenees – the area is often described as the Tuscany of France.
Through Limoux towards Quillan there is canoeing and river swimming.
Carcassonne, the Unesco world heritage site, is nearby, as is the Canal du Midi. Wine buffs will savour local wines that are enjoying an increasing reputation. The Chateau has a local expert who will escort you to various domaines. Castelnaudary, a 10 minute drive, is the renowned home of casoulet. Golf is at Carcassonne, and horse-riding and fishing are within minutes of the chateau.
