This pretty Provençal house sits amidst beautiful grounds with a lovely round heated swimming pool, an idyllic vine-covered pergola, a shady al-fresco lounge and lovely Luberon views from the very top terraced level.
Inside, guests can expect style and comfort across the villa’s air-conditioned interiors. Downstairs, the open-plan lounge and dining space is impressive, leading on to a brilliantly equipped kitchen and the study area is a book-lovers dream and a relaxing spot to watch TV. Mid-century furnishings add elegance whilst there are ample characterful touches, and each of the four bedrooms benefit from their own shower room, two of which are en suite.
The heart of Ménerbes is just a short walk away, one of France’s most enchanting hilltop villages surrounded by vineyards, cherry orchards, olive groves and woodland. Thursday mornings are simply delightful when the market takes place and there are charming restaurants and cafes, some with terraces looking out to the stunning Luberon landscapes.
Other idyllic villages close by include Oppède le Vieux, Lacoste and Bonnieux whilst Apt and Cavaillon are also known for their atmospheric markets showcasing the most wonderful local produce according to the season.
Then there’s the enchanting L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue with its antique stores and waterways as well as historic Avignon. Alternatively, head south towards Albert Camus’ beloved Lourmarin or further to Aix-en-Provence, around an hour away, passing landscapes that have inspired the likes of Cézanne and other great artists over the years. A short walk from the heart of the perched village of Ménerbes, Villa Berenice is well placed for exploring Provence’s captivating region of the Luberon and beyond, with good access to Avignon TGV train station as well as the airports of Avignon, Marseille and Nîmes.
Villa Berenice is at the edge of the village on a narrow country lane, with neighbours dotted around – walk just 400m up the road and you will find yourself in the heart of Ménerbes. It’s such an idyllic village, with glorious views of cherry orchards and vineyards below, and there are some excellent restaurants, a boulangerie, food shop and café-bars. The Thursday morning market is not to be missed for an abundance of Provençal delights. Ménerbes is officially classified as one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ with good reason and it’s where Peter Mayes wrote ‘A Year in Provence’.
You are also well positioned for reaching other archetypal Luberon villages within a short drive such as Lacoste, Oppède le Vieux and Bonnieux. On a Sunday morning, soak up the ambience at the wonderful Farmer’s market in Coustellet whilst Apt hosts the region’s largest market on a Saturday morning. Follow the footsteps of Van Gogh in Gordes and admire the summer lavender fields around Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque. Slightly further afield lies Lourmarin, around 22km away, yet another gorgeous village that so inspired Albert Camus.
Follow walking paths through woodland, orchards and vineyards, visit Luberon AOC wineries, discover cycling trails for a variety of abilities and head to the Sorgue river for canoeing and kayaking in stunning surroundings.
Days can also be spent in the historic cities of Avignon and Aix-en-Provence, hiking or cycling in the foothills of Mont Ventoux or driving west towards the picture-perfect villages and olive groves of Les Alpilles, visiting gems such as Les Baux de Provence, Eygalières and Saint-Rémy.At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
