Chateau De Reon France
Holiday Home Rental Description
As you approach Château De Réon along its tree-lined driveways you will immediately feel how special this place is. With a rich heritage and stunning natural surroundings, this Burgundy château is a wonderful place for family reunions, holidays with friends or a romantic wedding close to Beaune and the wine villages of the Route des Grands Crus.
Set in its own private walled grounds, Château De Réon was once part of a vast Cistercian abbey’s estate, dating as far back as the 12th century, and was home to the lay brothers for hundreds of years until the French Revolution. The current owners, who fell in love with the domaine, have spent the past decade reviving and restoring this beautiful château whilst respecting its great history as well as its spiritual and natural heritage.
Nowadays this spacious residence offers seven elegantly furnished bedrooms and an impressive apartment, altogether sleeping up to 15 guests. The château exudes an air of authenticity with traditional décor and characterful features alongside contemporary touches – overall there is a true sense of classic style. The living spaces are especially inviting with two large lounges, a high-ceilinged dining room and a well-equipped kitchen.
Within the nine hectares of your private walled grounds, discover the idyllic terrace for al-fresco dining, the tranquil monastic garden, a peaceful pond and canal, vineyards and an orchard as well as the heated swimming pool. The perfectly restored Orangery is an ideal reception venue for a grand Burgundy wedding in such a splendid setting.
Yet beyond the château there is still so much to explore within the 750-hectare estate. Follow the cycling trail along the old Roman road, hike or horse-ride into the huge eco-forest, picnic by the nature reserve’s étang and take a tour of the bio-dynamic farm, a short drive away. You may even spot the farm’s wild pigs roaming through the woodland.
A small village is just 2km away, there are restaurants within a short drive and the beautiful town of Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, is just 12km by car. Visit its twice-weekly market to pick up an abundance of local produce, sample Côte de Beaune in the town’s restaurants and bars and admire the incredible Hospices de Beaune, one of France’s most significant historic buildings.
Follow the Route des Grands Crus on foot, bike or by car, coming across gorgeous wine villages such as Pommard, Puligny Montrachet, Volnay and Meursault and their surrounding vineyards, all within around 15km.
Book a table at Maison Lameloise, a 100-year old restaurant in Chagny with three Michelin stars, or further afield spend the day learning about the Roman heritage of Autun or the magnificent abbey in Cluny. For even more outdoor adventures, the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan is yet another gem of this glorious part of Burgundy.Part of a 750-hectare estate just a 12km drive south of Beaune, Château De Réon is in a prime position for exploring the sights of Burgundy, located close to the border of Côte-d’Or and Saône-et-Loire.
Start off exploring the huge estate, which also features the beautiful
Palais De Réon and its private grounds next door beyond the château’s walled gardens. Across the 750 hectares, whether walking or driving, you will find the owners’ bio-dynamic working farm (around 5km away) which produces organic seasonal fruit and vegetables as well as cereal for bread production. It also features vineyards, beehives and farm animals whilst wild pigs are bred across the forest.
The estate’s eco-forest is ideal for mountain biking, horse-riding and hiking whilst 3D archery can also be arranged. Head to the nature reserve’s étang for some bird-spotting or fishing, have a picnic by the swimming beach or take a calming walk along the pond’s 5km-long shores. An old Roman road, now a cycling path between Beaune and Chalon, also passes through.
Despite this rural idyll on your doorstep, you are also so close to many of the famous Burgundy wine villages that can be found along the Route des Grands Crus. Hire bikes and set off to a cycling trail passing through vineyards and idyllic villages such as Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Puligny Montrachet, all within around 15km. Come across picture-perfect vineyards for gourmet picnics, book a table at a Michelin starred restaurant or just spend your time sampling some of France’s famous Côte de Beaune wines at one of the many wineries.
