Domaine De Reon France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Surrounded by history and a sense of spiritual heritage, Domaine De Réon offers guests the opportunity to stay in a beautifully restored château and palais, each with a heated swimming pool, in the most magnificent natural setting close to Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy.
Domaine De Réon dates back as far as the 12th century when an important Cistercian abbey was created. Until the French Revolution, the abbot stayed in the palais whilst the château was home to the lay brothers and the surrounding land was cultivated into vineyards, pastures, waterways and forests. Its current owners fell in love with the vast estate and took it upon themselves to revive the spiritual and natural heritage of this special place.
After a decade of sensitive and careful restoration, Château and Palais De Réon have been brought back to life and are now stunning places for holidays with family and friends or an ideal Burgundy wedding venue. Each set in their own private gardens, guests have use of two heated swimming pools and a tennis court as well as mature parkland, century-old trees, ponds and a canal, a vineyard and idyllic terraces for al-fresco dining. A romantically restored Orangery could be a picture-perfect wedding reception venue in this splendid setting.
The impressive château sleeps up to 15 guests across nine bedrooms – there’s an air of classic authenticity with traditional décor alongside contemporary touches across its spacious living and dining rooms. The charming palais offers sleeping arrangements for up to 14 guests alongside a home-cinema lounge, library and elegant kitchen with a Lacanche oven and appliances. Extra luxuries include bathrobes, high-end eco toiletries and the palais’ two saunas and jacuzzi.
Beyond the walled grounds, there is so much to discover across the vast 750-hectare estate. Cycle along the old Roman road, bike or hike through the eco-forest, take long walks along the shores of the nature reserve and enjoy picnics by the swimming beach, perhaps with a spot of fishing or bird-watching. There’s also a bio-dynamic farm a short drive away, not to mention the vineyards and winery – tours of both can be arranged.
There are restaurants within a short drive, a small village is only 2km away and Beaune, home to the famous Hospices de Beaune, is just 12km by car with its twice-weekly market, charming wine bars and historic ambience. The wine villages and vineyards of the Route des Grands Crus can be discovered close by with Puligny Montrachet, Pommard, Volnay and Meursault all within 15km.
The local town of Chagny is also a delight with its Sunday morning market and 100-year old restaurant, Maison Lameloise, with three Michelin stars. Further afield, visit the Roman town of Autun, sample mustard in Dijon, admire the magnificent abbey at Cluny or experience the stunning natural beauty of the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan, all wonderful highlights of glorious Burgundy.Domaine De Réon is perfectly positioned in the heart of Burgundy, only a 12km drive from Beaune, bordering the departments of Côte-d’Or and Saône-et-Loire.
Beyond the château and palais’ private grounds, the owners’ vast 750 hectare estate is waiting to be explored. Head to the eco-forest for long walks, mountain biking, horse-riding and even 3D archery can be arranged. Reach the nature reserve with its large pond, a wonderful spot for bird-watching, fishing, picnics by the swimming beach or long walks along the banks of the étang. A cycling path between Beaune and Chalon, an old Roman road, also passes through the estate .
The estate is also home to a bio-dynamic farm, around a 5-minute drive away, where tours can be arranged. The farm produces organic fruit and vegetables, vines, cereal for bread production and honey from its beehives. It also breeds a number of animals including wild pigs that roam through the forest.
The idyllic wine villages of Burgundy, scattered along the Route des Grands Crus, are also within easy reach. Many visitors walk between villages or hire bikes and follow the véloroute cycling trail that runs past picturesque vineyards and many of the much-loved wine villages including Volnay, Puligny Montrachet, Pommard and Meursault, all within 15km. Book a table at one of the many Michelin starred restaurants dotted around this part of Burgundy, find the perfect picnic spot overlooking a vineyard or spend time at one of the Burgundy wineries sampling exquisite Côte de Beaune wines.
