The main villa and the annexe’s interiors are tastefully decorated with great attention to detail and feature rustic furniture in the form of oak treasure chests, exposed wooden beams and patterned wallpapers. Each of the five bedrooms is finished with soft furnishings in a neutral colour palette to create a wholesome nest you’ll be happy to retreat to after a long day spent exploring the fantastic surroundings. One of the bedrooms also boasts a cosy terrace with breathtaking views over the nearby villages and countryside.
Aspiring chefs and wine enthusiasts will love spending their free time in the spacious, open-plan kitchen. Only a 15-minute drive away, Forte dei Marmi is a small seaside town with a long pier overlooking the Thyrennian sea and is popular for its fine sandy beaches. Discover the many sculptures sprinkled around the historic town centre, including the marble Monumento ai Caduti war memorial and the symbol of the city – Piazza Garibaldi.
Only a 20-minute drive away, Marina di Massa is located at the foot of the Apuan Alps. Known for its Art Nouveau architecture, its busy coastline lined with hotels, restaurants and residences is framed by a pine forest that offers a refreshing shade and a place to unwind after a long day catching sun rays. Visit the Villa Paolina Civic museums, including a museum of musical instruments or Villa Puccini dedicated to the Italian composer and based in his former lakeside residence. The city hosts a street carnival popular with locals and tourists alike at the end of summer, full of live performances, street stalls, and fireworks.
If you’re looking for a change of scenery, the city of Massa is also only a 15-minute drive away. Full of lush parks alongside buzzing restaurants and bar scenes, it’s backed by the Polle di Malbacco – Pozzo della Madonna nature reserve. Here you can find mesmerising waterfalls and forested hills ideal for wholesome hikes. Climb up the Monte Folgorito for picturesque views or go as far as the Monte Carchio to discover well-preserved marble stones.
On the Serchio river lies the city of Lucca, known for its well-preserved Renaissance walls still encircling the historic city centre. Walk around the pretty streets full of cobbled alleyways and tree-lined pathways along the tops of the massive 16th and 17th-century ramparts or hire bikes to explore the surrounding nature – you can reach it in just under 50 minutes by car.
Drive for around 40 minutes to visit the iconic leaning tower of Pisa and create fun holiday photographs posing next to the majestic building. Dating back to the 12th century, it’s one of three structures in the Pisa’s Cathedral Square, and it reaches 56.67 metres on the highest side.
In just one hour by car, you can reach the city of Livorno. Famous for its seafront and modern harbour, it also has a charismatic canal-laced neighbourhood called Venezia Nuova, where you can stroll around colourful buildings and boats. The city’s central gathering place is Terrazza Mascagni – a busy promenade with checkerboard paving backed by an array of seafood restaurants.
