Masseria Monte Piccinnu Italy
Holiday Home Rental Description
Masseria Monte Piccinnu is a recently restored Puglian farmhouse located in the serene countryside of Italy’s heel. Surrounded by olive groves just outside of Ceglie Messapica which is a picturesque historic town, this is the perfect place for your Italian break.
Sleeping up to fourteen people, Masseria Monte Piccinnu would be ideal for a special holiday with family or a group of friends. This beautiful home has been newly renovated and offers all the modern amenities you could need, alongside traditional architecture and simple, elegant design. The light and airy living area is a great space for spending time together while the five double bedrooms offer a place to retreat and enjoy some peace. Two of the en-suite bedrooms are in the main house but there are two more which are in lovingly restored stable buildings accessed from the garden. One more of the rooms is even situated in a rustic stone trullo, which is a type of house unique to this area.
You are likely to want to spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying the sun and the garden here is an oasis in which to unwind. Outdoors you will find a number of al-fresco dining spots, comfy outside furniture, a hot tub and also an incredible swimming pool which is cleaned naturally by plants and is part of the owner’s eco-friendly design for the house and grounds.
The home is in a rural setting but is not isolated and there are shops and restaurants within easy reach. The nearest supermarket and the charming ancient town of Ceglie Messapica are under a 5-minute drive away. The town, first settled by the Greeks in 700 BC, is one of the oldest in Italy. Here you will find plenty of pre-historic and medieval ruins and buildings to visit as well as shops, cafés and restaurants dotted around piazzas leading off from pretty cobbled streets. Make sure to look out for the Ducal Castle in the old quarter which houses an art museum and library.
If you would like to explore more of Puglia, there is lots to see nearby. One town worth visiting is Ostuni, which is a twenty-minute drive away from the house. It is a charming white washed town which leads up the hillside to an amazing Gothic cathedral. The views from the town are breath-taking and it is a wonderful place to enjoy local delicacies or a coffee in some of the family-owned cafés.
Heading out from the hills, if you wish to visit a beach then the house is just 30-minutes from the coast where you will find some of Puglia’s prettiest beaches. Puglia, in the South East of Italy, is a lovely place for a holiday as it is such a diverse place; predominately a sleepy farming region, yet bordered by 800 km of stunning coastline and dotted with pretty villages of whitewashed Trullo houses.
Masseria Monte Piccinnu sits in quiet olive groves just a five-minute drive from the ancient town of Ceglie Messapica. With over 2000 years of history, Ceglie Messapica has lots of interesting sites including pre-historic monuments, medieval churches such as the Chiesa di Sant Anna, and the Ducal Castle which dominates the landscape. After wandering around the pretty squares there are many places to eat and drink and the town is renowned for its cuisine. Stop off at a bakery to try the famous biscotti di Ceglie made from locally grown almonds. Though Masseria Monte Piccinnu is not a large town there is plenty to see and do here and lots of history and culture to enjoy.
If you are visiting Puglia to get away from it all and spend time in the countryside, then you will find lots of walking and cycling trails starting off near the house which offer amazing views of the local landscape, you could always book onto an organised walking tour if you feel a guide would be helpful. Additionally, an enjoyable way to combine a country day out with an interest in food and wine would be to visit a local vineyard such as I Pàstini srl which is 25-minutes away by car. Guests can join in with a guided tour of the vineyard, sample the wine and enjoy nibbles or lunch too.
Puglia has some stunning beaches and you will find an excellent selection around half an hour from the house. Some highly-recommended local beaches include Costa Merlata and Torre Pozzelle where you can swim in the blue Adriatic Sea. It would also be a shame to visit Puglia without seeing some of the incredible caves which the area is famous for, Grotte di Montevicoli is one of the more popular and is a ten minute drive away.
For day trips a little further afield, try the town of Ostuni which is a twenty-minute drive away and is a striking hilltop town filled with winding cobbled streets; visit at sunset for spectacular sea views or you could drive an hour away to Lecce, which is a coastal city with beautiful Baroque architecture, museums, galleries and great shopping.
