Several historic towns are within easy reach, meaning there’s always something new to see and do during your stay at this beautiful villa.
Once a humble country farmhouse, Dimora di Penne has undergone a stunning transformation into a bright, luxurious holiday home. Even more space is on offer outside, with lush gardens dotted with trees, traditional dry-stone walls and areas for rest and relaxation.
Certain to be everyone’s favourite space is the cosy living area with feature fireplace and a choice of two large sofas to unwind on after a long day. A door to the outside space offers easy access to the dining terrace for enjoying al fresco meals.
This villa is ideal for larger families or groups, as it boasts a total of six beautiful bedrooms. Each has been designed and furnished with comfort in mind, with earthy tones and gentle pops of colour creating restful atmospheres. Most also have their own sumptuous ensuite bathroom, with the fifth bedroom and mezzanine-level bedroom sharing facilities.
Dimora di Penne is surrounded by natural parkland that features typical dry-stone walls, grassy areas and Mediterranean trees that provide leafy shade on hot days. Also relax on the stone terraces directly outside the villa, with comfortable sofas and chairs to sink back into as you soak up the rural views. Cool off in the large swimming pool or enjoy sociable pool-side drinks on the sun loungers. The covered dining terrace is a great place to make the most of sunset views as you savour a delicious evening meal.
The villa occupies a prime position for getting out and about in this lovely part of Sicily. It’s well-connected to both inland towns for historic sightseeing and shopping, as well as the coast for sandy beaches, walking trails and swimming. Highlights include the towns of Scicli and Modica with their wealth of Baroque architecture, which are both within a 30-minute drive. Even closer are the sandy beaches found in the fishing village of Sampieri and the small seaside resort of Marina di Modica. As well as being in a truly idyllic setting within the south Sicilian countryside, Dimora di Penne is also well-connected to amenities. The nearest bars and shops are less than a 15-minute drive away in the town of Scicli.
Well-known for its Baroque architecture, Scicli is a charming place to explore as you stock up on groceries or before enjoying an evening meal. There are several beautiful churches in town, as well as some impressive palazzos to marvel at.
The south of Sicily is perfect for walking and hiking, with Vendicari Nature Reserve offering over 1,500 hectares of wild and beautiful landscapes. The marshes in the reserve are home to wildlife such as flamingos, egrets and pelicans; making it a birdwatcher’s paradise. Also found within the reserve are many archaeological remains. Beaches offer snorkelling and swimming, with over 13km of rocky coastline to hike along.
Enjoy the sandy beaches and lovely water for swimming in the fishing village of Sampieri and the resort of Marina di Modica. The latter also offers ideal surfing and windsurfing conditions. There are many restaurants to choose from in both spots, with the ones in Marina di Modica having a slightly livelier atmosphere due to its resort status. One of the best ways to enjoy the beach at Sampieri is by taking a picnic and soaking up the laid-back feel. Hire sun loungers and umbrellas for the full experience.
Hiking and history combine at the Archaeological area of Cava d’Ispica. Here you can explore a series of ancient cave dwellings and burial sites, as well as walk through a beautiful nature reserve.
Other historic must-visit spots include the Baroque town of Modica and slightly further afield, the city of Syracuse. Syracuse boasts a number of ancient ruins and archaeological sites, with many being found on a small island called Ortigia. This historic centre of Syracuse has a charming atmosphere, with its elegant streets and landmarks, such as the Piazza del Duomo. Syracuse’s most spectacular site is probably the Greek Theatre, which is just one of a number of ancient ruins within a vast archaeological park.At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
