Rental Description

If you’ve been searching for holiday accommodation that offers breathtaking views, peace and tranquillity – with a plethora of amenities and activities just a stone’s throw away, look no further than Villa Nova Art, a stunning 18th-century farmhouse nestled on the rolling hillsides of Portugal’s Minho region.
Located just east of Vila Nova de Cerveira, the ‘Arts Village’, and accommodating up to fourteen guests across the main house, annexe and cottage, Villa Nova Art provides the perfect escape for larger parties seeking rest and relaxation.
Villa Nova Art features a rustic, country cottage style aesthetic, with handmade terracotta floor tiles, rich woods, and sprays of stone and brickwork throughout. The rooms are cosy and comforting, yet light and spacious, with comfy soft furnishings and interesting objet d’art. The main farmhouse sleeps six across three double bedrooms – each with an ensuite shower room.
The largest bedroom can accommodate an additional two children – making this charming holiday home ideal for larger family groups. The villa is decorated throughout in warm, neutral shades and has a real home-from-home feel. The kitchen and dining room in the main house offer plenty of space for preparing and enjoying family meals and are well-equipped with amenities including a cooker and hob, coffee machine, kettle, toaster, dishwasher and large, American-style fridge freezer.
The living area features a beautiful open fireplace, as well as a library and LCD satellite TV, and is the perfect place for relaxing and reflecting on your day.
Set over three acres, Villa Nova Art offers the best of both worlds when it comes to holidaying as a large group and yet maintaining your privacy when you need it. Aside from the main house, there is an equally beautiful cottage that sleeps up to four guests across a twin and a double room with a shared bathroom – ideal for a family with older children or teens. There’s also an annexe with a double room and ensuite shower room that can accommodate an extra two guests.
The cosy cottage features an open plan kitchenette – just perfect for grabbing that morning coffee before joining the rest of the group. The cottage doors open out onto a beautiful covered terrace overlooking the villa gardens and swimming pool area.
Yes, I said ‘pool’. No Portugal holiday accommodation would be complete without somewhere to take a dip, and Villa Nova Art benefits from having its own private, heated pool for guests to enjoy during their stay. The villa’s grounds offer a large, mature space featuring lawns for lounging and sunbathing and private woodlands to explore. There’s also a well-appointed barbeque terrace, perfect for enjoying alfresco meals as the sun sets over the rolling hills.Villa Nova Art is located in the region of Minho, an area of outstanding natural beauty that features mountains, river valleys and the dramatic Atlantic coastline. The area takes its name from the River Minho, which forms the northern border with Spain, and is a popular holiday retreat for those looking to enjoy all the beauty that the country has to offer. The area is cooler than the Algarve during the summer months, making it a good choice for those travelling with young children, and offers a relaxed and laid-back vibe.
The villa itself is close to several goods, basic village amenities including shops, a church and a cafe, and there are nature and woodland walks right on your doorstep. Guests at Villa Nova Art are just a short distance from the pretty town of Caminha, an often overlooked destination that makes a great starting point for holidaymakers staying in the region. Here you’ll find beaches, mountains and forests, as well as Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance architecture to enjoy, before heading to one of the many fabulous eateries and restaurants in the town. Tourism is more understated here, so you won’t get the hustle and bustle that you’ll find in the more southern regions, and outside of July and August, you could almost have the place to yourselves!
Attractions in Caminha include the Torre do Relogio clock tower, once part of the medieval castle and now incorporated into the city walls and offering fantastic views over the town centre. But it is the heart of Caminha, Praça Conselheiro Silva Torres, that draws in the most visitors. This lively square filled with trees and cafes is the ideal place to soak up the sunshine with a coffee and a slice of cake as you watch the world go by. At the centre is an ornamental fountain, once the main source of drinking water for the town. Now simply a magnificent focal point, the fountain is the work of 16th-century master stonemason Joao Lopes o Velho, who worked on a number of important monuments in the region.
After a relaxing afternoon in the centre of Caminha, be sure to head down the ancient street of Rua Direita and marvel at the local architecture, such as intricately carved windows and door surrounds that date back to the 16th century. The ground floors of many of these magnificent buildings now house bars and shops and are the focus of the town’s nightlife, with popular hangouts including After Eight and the O Portao gin bar.
