Those that love the outdoors can take to many of the footpaths that trace their way along the coastline or wind their way into the forests. Two sections of the CR92 Mediterranean Trail pass through the town.
Other wonderful towns are Besalu, once home to an important Jewish community and boasting a spectacular medieval bridge, the quaint medieval towns of Pals and Peratallada, Sant Pere de Rodes with its restored Benedictine 11th century monastery and Portbou. Over the border in France, you can reach Ceret in 30 minutes visiting its Museum of Modern Art, Collioure in 45 minutes to visit the castle and museums and Perpignan to visit the Palace of the Kings of Mallorca.
