There is much nearby to explore including the small village of Ika, renowned for its fishing and shipbuilding past. There are a great number of nearby beaches, including Ika Beach. It has pebbles but the water is gentle, calm and clear. You can also breathe in that easy Adriatic air. Here you’ll find all that you might expect from a historic Croatian village; taverns raucous in their own way, restaurants serving up elegant seafood dishes (naturally it’s the speciality of the area) thanks to the climate, conditions and proximity to the water. There are also churches, boars bobbing gently along the harbour and scenic Croatian homes. What’s so wonderful is that you’ll soon find yourself easing into a calmer pace of life.
Relaxation is aplenty here, but what if you have more adventurous tastes? Fortunately, this is catered for too. The Opatija Riviera is a famed tourist gem, rather glitzy, and packing plenty of history and culture. There’s a 14th century Benedictine abbey, Opatija Sv. Jakova, Angiolina, the town park, and the famous Maiden with the Seagull statue which serves as somewhat of an emblem for the area.
