Upstairs, you will find the other three bedrooms – two of them en suite – all with comfy queen-size beds, air-conditioning and in-room TVs. Two of the bedrooms have access to a balcony or terrace, with gorgeous sea views and space to relax. Also, on this level, you’ll find a family bathroom, office space and laundry facilities.
Pretty Podstrana is an idyllic spot with mountain backdrops and 6km of beaches. Restaurants and beach bars are there in numbers to introduce you to Dalmatian cuisine, and the town’s proximity to Split puts an endless range of attractions within reach. Also within a short drive is the water sports capital of the area, Omiš, located on the River Cetina. The coastal town of Podstrana lies just 8km from Split, with Perun Hill and Mosor Mountain serving as its very hike-able backdrop. With a marina, waterfront cafés and extensive beaches, Podstrana is a popular getaway. Whether you head up into the hills or stay beside the Adriatic, you are sure to appreciate its beauty and relaxed vibe.
It’s easy to reach many notable places from Podstrana. In the nearby city of Split, you’ll find no shortage of historical sights. The Cathedral of St Domnius, Diocletian’s Palace and many more are waiting for you in Croatia’s second city. Split is big on culture, so be sure to seek out the Croatian National Theatre, Split Gallery of Fine Arts and the Meštrović Gallery – this grand building set in landscaped gardens pays homage to Croatia’s great 20th-century sculptor.
The green spaces of Marjan Forest Park and the region’s largest aquarium offer a chance to experience nature while in town. Split is a great city for families, with many attractions that will delight children. Visits to the Blue Cave or local islands are always popular. The islands of Brač and Šolta, just off the coast, make superb excursions from Split.
Another town well worth a visit, Omiš, is about 15km down the coast from Podstrana. These days it’s famed as a top-notch water sports destination, but it was once the home of pirates who ruled the waves of the Adriatic. There are plenty of opportunities to find out more about this around the town and even pirate cruises in the summer.
The sporting activity is centred on the magnificent River Cetina, which flows through the town. You can go rafting, canyoning, canoeing, and even zoom across the water on the spectacular zip-lines. Backed by the Dinara mountains, Omiš is great for relaxing, with lots of restaurants and café terraces.
The town hosts various cultural events throughout the year. The summer Festival of Dalmatian Klapas, which brings this traditional form of Croatian music to the streets, is one not to miss. Hearing the gentle harmonies of this unique singing style reverberating around St Michael’s Square is something you will remember.
Omiš is also notable for its imposing fortresses. The 13th-century Mirabella fortress and 15th-century Starigrad require considerable climbing, but it’s worth the effort, as the views over the area are incredible. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
