Most bedrooms feature a double bed, with three of them offering a queen-size bed. One bedroom has twin beds. Stylish throughout, each apartment has its own bathroom with a shower.
An attractive island with around 5,000 inhabitants, Murter makes for a pleasant getaway, providing idyllic beaches, traditional restaurants and a lovely setting for outdoor activities. You won’t find big shopping centres or hardcore nightlife on this relaxed island, but it’s easy to cross over the road bridge which connects it to the mainland for more options. With Vodice around 25 minutes away, and Šibenik about 10 minutes further, there are more beaches, historic sights and family attractions to discover.Part of the Šibenik Archipelago, Murter is a lovely island that serves as a good base for the Kornati Islands and the city of Šibenik itself. A handful of settlements around the island act as its centres, including Tisno, Slanica Bay and the largest, Murter village. Plenty of pretty beaches are around the island, and visitors enjoy excellent dining and lively entertainment. Tisno hosts a series of summer music festivals, and Murter is a ‘cultural summer’.
Accessible by road, it’s easy to reach the mainland from Murter. Šibenik is a major city which is home to numerous historic sights, most notably the World Heritage Site, St James’ Cathedral. Made entirely of stone, this grand cathedral dates back to the 15th century and is a fusion of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles.
The city’s quartet of forts – St Michael’s, St John, Barone and St Nikola – will give you more landmarks to tick off. You will need to take a boat to reach St Nikola, but the others are all accessible on foot from the centre. There is frequent entertainment on offer. St Michael’s Fort has been restored recently and now features an open-air theatre. In summer, nearby Barone Fort doubles as an open-air cinema.
Close to the cathedral, you’ll find the Šibenik City Museum, housed in the Rector’s Palace, and the Aquarium Terrarium, with colourful creatures that kids will love. Visit the city in summer, and you may also catch the annual International Children’s Festival Šibenik has hosted for over 60 years.
Šibenik is full of excellent restaurants which showcase high-quality Adriatic cuisine. The region is a major wine producer, so look out for babić, the highly rated local red. To learn more about the wine of Dalmatia, you can take an excursion out of town to the Baraka Winery, which offers fine wine tastings and special events.
Not far north of Šibenik, Krka National Park is a must-see when you are this close. The park has 17 waterfalls and endless areas of countryside with biking and hiking trails you can follow. Guided tours are also available, taking in highlights like Visovac Island and the Roški Slap waterfall.
