Villa Katica is located in the exclusive residential area of the village of Praznica, situated in the bullseye of the island of Brac, Croatia, in the heart of the Adriatic Sea. The nearest airport is just nine kilometres away in the town of Bol, and has limited flights to and from many European destinations. Much more popular is the international airport in Split on the Croatian mainland, where there is the option of a three hour circuitous drive, or a speedier car and ferry or catamaran to Brac and your destination of Praznica.
The villa is within walking distance of the small sleepy village of Praznica, where you will find local stores, a couple of restaurants and bars, quite a few churches, and a chance to taste the famous Brac cheese, which is made here. The village of Praznica is situated at a crossroads with easy road access to many of the major towns and sites on the island.
The nearest beach is just four kilometres away, with the best one rated as Zlatni Rat Beach aka Golden Horn, followed closely by Sumartin, Paklina, Murvica, Lovrecina, and Dracheva, small sandy shady family friendly beaches with crystal clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Brac beaches are mostly quiet and secluded with limited facilities, and you’ll have fabulous fun spotting super yachts in cosy coves as they cruise around the Med and beyond.
For the active and adventurous the island of Brac has a spider’s web of hiker’s trails, take a walk to discover the local flora and fauna, discover secret bays along the coastline, and traditional Croatian villages along the way. The island is also noted for the craftsmanship of stone masonry, with many schools and academies teaching the trade, who welcome visitors to view their work.
Brac is a foodie’s paradise, most notably the local cheeses from the hand reared sheep and goats across the island, sample the local olive oil, herbs and honey, taste the village wines, and pair them with traditional dishes of lamb, or sample the smorgasbord of seafood of freshly caught fish at the plethora of restaurants all along the coast. If you fancy a bit of tourism, head south to Bol, a twenty minute drive away, where you will find Zlatni Rat Beach, acclaimed as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Promenade around the Baroque and Renaissance style seafront, walk through the pine forests and vineyards to Vidova Gora, the highest peak on Brac, and admire the view below.
Head north to Supetar, a twenty five minute drive to the largest town on the island, founded in the fifteenth century, and part connected to the mainland, you’ll be spoilt for choice with its many soft sandy beaches and hidden bays. From Supetar you can charter a yacht or catamaran and sail the Adriatic seas, take a trip on a three island tour, or cross to the mainland and have a day out sightseeing in Split. If you find the need for speed you can always hire a super speedboat and explore the Croatian coast.
