This modern and elegant villa sits on a hill above the Adriatic Sea and beautiful Mlini bay, just a fifteen-minute drive to the ancient old town of Dubrovnik. From the terrace, guests can enjoy a nearly bird’s-eye view over the luscious countryside to the glistening sea on the horizon. Villa Maroje’s convenient location grants easy access to everything you could need, from sightseeing and retail therapy to lazy moments under the sun at the lovely local beaches.
As soon as you step inside the front door, the villa has the feel of an interior design magazine, with stylish, modern furnishings and bright, spacious rooms. The main villa has four bedrooms, alongside three contemporary en-suite bathrooms. Picturesque views fill every window with an atmosphere of calm and relaxation, with the colours of the surrounding landscapes and sea flooding into each room. Everything from the soft furnishings to the light fixtures have been carefully chosen, making every room feel special.
The ground floor offers the main entertaining space where the whole group can come together and spend quality time. This entire open plan room feels social, perfect for lively evenings full of conversation and laughter with your loved ones. There is a large sofa, perfect for putting your feet up and relaxing. Guests can enjoy using the fully equipped kitchen and sociable island, with dining chairs either side so you can all spend long evenings drinking local wine and making the most of time away from day-to-day lives.
As you amble around the terrace, it is hard to choose the best spot to enjoy the stunning views from. You can take a dip in the private pool whilst gazing out to the horizon or sipping a glass of fizz in the heated jacuzzi on the balcony, easing away any lasting worries. With a big al-fresco dining table and sublime outdoor kitchen, cooking and dining outdoors is a must! Mlini is located south of Dubrovnik, surrounded by the sea and sheltered by mountains. It has a mild and pleasant climate that draws visitors back year on year, so you can enjoy swimming from spring to late autumn.
Mlini is one of the more developed tourist resorts in the Dubrovnik vicinity, situated beneath the historic mountain Spilan and formed around the shape of the mountain and the wooded rocky land beneath. The name of the place comes from the mills (Mlini means “mills”) that used to be moved by the waters of the rivulet Zavrelja. There is a beautiful promenade and a small harbour from which the boats depart several times a day to Dubrovnik, Cavtat and nearby islands. There are plenty of restaurants and cafe bars in the immediate area, perfect for relaxed lunches and lively evening meals.
Dubrovnik is Croatia’s most popular tourist destination, and it’s not difficult to see why. An essentially medieval town reshaped by Baroque planners after a disastrous earthquake of 1667, Dubrovnik’s historic core seems to have been suspended in time ever since. Set-piece churches and public buildings blend seamlessly with the green-shuttered stone houses, forming a perfect ensemble relatively untouched by the twenty-first century. Outside the city walls, suburban Dubrovnik exudes Mediterranean elegance: gardens are an explosion of colourful bougainvillea and oleanders; trees are weighted down with figs, lemons, oranges and peaches.
Dubrovnik is worth a visit at any time of year, although spring and summer, when the streets and cafés are lively well into the night, is a great time to visit. Croatia’s cultural luminaries visit the town during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival in July and August, bringing an added dash of glamour to the streets, while the main event in winter is the Feast of St Blaise on February 3, when the patron saint of the city is honoured by a parade and special mass, followed by plenty of drinking and eating.
