Villa Belle De Nuit France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Two stunning four-bedroom houses perch on a headland over the Gironde estuary. Among the untouched beauty of the surrounding oak and pine trees, a tunnel dives through the cliff to the beach below, while the infinity pool faces out over the the cliff across the estuary.
Spend the morning browsing the local French markets for the seasonal delicacies, before enjoying lunch at the outside dining area by the pool, complete with fully-fitted kitchen and Weber gas barbecue. If you have energy to burn in the afternoon, why not play a little tennis, go for a kayak in the estuary or go cycling in the woods… At sunset, gather at the tip of the headland to enjoy an aperitif and watch the sun setting out to sea – and get ready to enjoy your home from home again the next day!
In Meschers-sur-Gironde and St Georges-de-Didonne, the nearest villages, you can explore the troglodyte caves, beautiful tucked-away sandy coves and traditional markets, all just a short bike ride away. Just thirty minutes north is the untamed beauty of the Cote Sauvage. This 20km stretch of almost uninterrupted sandy beach is perfect for all sorts of watersports, and surfers and body-boarders can make the most of the renowned Atlantic waves.
Just inland there are over 40km of cycle paths winding through the forests to explore, and the kids can have fun at the zip-wire park, crazy golf or horse-riding. A little further away (about an hour and a half in each direction), the two great cities of La Rochelle and Bordeaux prove how the old and new go so perfectly together in France.
Wander down to the lively marina and old harbour at La Rochelle and admire the limestone façades, or dive down and explore some of the many arcaded walkways. In Bordeaux, explore the UNESCO-listed city centre with its bustling hubbub of shops and commerce amongst the stunningly restored neoclassical architecture. Both make excellent stopovers on your way to or from Embeschade, and both have airports making them extremely useful transport hubs.
Bordeaux is perhaps most famous of all for its wine, much of which is classed among the best in the world. Heading south from Embeschade you’ll come first to Cote de Blaye, and then on through Pomerol, St Emilion and Entre-Deux-Mers to Sauternes and Graves south of Bordeaux itself. Or, take the ferry from Royan (just 10 minutes from Embeschade) to the Médoc side of the estuary and journey down through the vines to the world-famous villages of St-Estèphe, Pauillac, St-Julien and Margaux.
We recommend arranging a guided cycling tour, visiting a couple of these renowned vineyards before indulging in a delicious lunch surrounded by the rolling vineyards. For brandy-lovers Cognac lies to the north-east, home of illustrious producers such as Courvoisier, Hennessy and Remy-Martin, among others. Tour one of these famous houses before taking a stroll through the old town and having lunch by the river Charente – perfection! At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
