Apartment Agathe France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Stylish two-bedroom, first-floor apartment in the famous Sorbonne-Latin quarter, home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Found in the 5th and 6th arrondissements, it is on the river Seine’s left bank. Its winding cobblestone streets are reminiscent of what medieval Paris would have looked like. The Latin Quarter has largely been spared the sweeping renovations of Haussmann, so today retains much of its ancient feel. There is so much to see and do in the area it is possible to spend an entire weekend without leaving.
Situated on the first floor of an impressive building, you will enter a large open-plan living area. First impressions are of light and space thanks to the large windows and high ceilings. Decorated in a modern contemporary style, there is a hardwood floor throughout. The living area has a sofa bed that will accommodate an additional guest, white shelving units and a dining table that seats four. An impressive glass chandelier gives an air of elegance to the space. The pièce de resistance is reached from the living area—an impressive outside terrace complete with a hardwood dining table and matching sofa and chairs. A screen of greenery gives maximum privacy, a perfect spot to relax and dine al fresco on warm summer mornings and balmy evenings. What could be better than sitting outside planning your day with a coffee and freshly baked croissant while the city wakes up?
Both bedrooms are reached from the living area. Bedroom one has a queen size double bed, large fitted wardrobes and two tall windows overlooking the street below. Bedroom two has two single beds and a wardrobe. It, too, has tall windows offering views of the street.
The compact kitchen forms part of the open-plan living area and is fully equipped with sleek modern units and worktops. Here you will find everything you need to prepare gourmet meals with fresh local ingredients from the Boulevard Saint Germain market street. The place to shop with amongst the locals! The bright modern bathroom is reached from the living area and has a walk-in shower, stylish basin, heated towel rail and WC.From imposing historical buildings, bohemian student cafes, and pretty gardens, to underground Jazz bars that stay open until dawn – it’s not surprising that the Latin Quarter is a popular destination.
Many of the city’s must-see sights are within walking distance, including Notre Dame, Musee D’Orsay, the Louvre and many more. If culture is what you are looking for, you will be satisfied. An excellent place to start your exploration of the Latin Quarter is to make your way to the Saint-Michel Fountain. Located right across the river Seine opposite Notre Dame, the fountain is a monument representing the fight of Good against Evil, more specifically, the victory of Saint Michel over the devil.
A short walk from the apartment will bring you to The Pantheon. Originally built as a church in 1758, it was converted into a shrine to the heroes of France during the revolution. Modelled after the Pantheon in Rome, it’s worth a tour. Victor Hugo and Marie Curie have been buried here; many others, such as Pierre Curie, Louis Braille and Alexandre Dumas, are honoured.
Absolutely not to be missed is a stroll along the Rue Saint Jacques which runs through the intellectual heart of Paris. On one side is the College de France, founded in the 16th century and considered the most prestigious research institution in the county. On the opposite side of the street is the grandiose University of Sorbonne. Recognised by its dome and observatory, it is considered the best university in France in the field of literary arts.
Move to Rue de la Huchette, a colourful and bustling tourist area full of small, mainly Greek, restaurants and little shops selling gifts. If you prefer to amble down a more Parisienne street, you should visit Rue Mouffetard. This bustling, lively street is the core of the Latin quarter. Its narrow streets lined with bars and restaurants are popular in Paris nightlife. You don’t need a camera to picture yourself here! Imagine strolling through the lane filling your picnic basket with fresh fromage, a baguette, maybe a bottle of wine, and some mouth-watering patisserie.
Once your basket is complete, you could head to Jardin des Plantes to enjoy the fruits of your shopping trip. A botanical garden originally used to grow medicinal herbs for royalty, it is now another of the city’s hidden gems. It hosts lush gardens, including alpine and rose gardens, and three large greenhouses. Also here you will find a zoo and natural history museum, a great place to spend the day with children. At Excellence Luxury Villas, we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
