There is a Host Reception that can take care of all your needs. Like a concierge service, they will organise everything from laundry and dry-cleaning services to restaurant reservations and shuttle services. One of the most popular quarters of Paris, Marais is famous for its charm. Hidden cobbled streets, courtyards and gardens create a village feel that nowhere else in Paris can offer. Its small maze-like streets gave an insight into the history of Paris many centuries ago. An area rich in culture, it’s full of museums and galleries to entertain and amuse lovers of all the arts. Finding everything you need to entertain for a weekend in Paris without ever leaving the area is possible.
The modern Pompidou Centre is unmissable because of its sheer size and brightly coloured tubes on its exterior. It houses one of France’s biggest collections of contemporary art—a must-see attraction. One of the oldest squares in Paris can be found in Marais. Place des Vosges is not only the oldest but arguably the prettiest. Featuring lawns, fountains, and tree-shaded benches, it offers an oasis of calm from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding area. After taking time out in Place des Vosges, it’s just a short stroll to Maison Victor Hugo. Here you can explore rooms that Victor Hugo lived and wrote in, notably the one thousand love letters penned during his lifetime. The entrance is free.
Fashionistas, Marais is the place for you! Department store BHV Paris is a shopping paradise featuring a wide range of leisure and designer clothing. The surrounding streets are packed with boutiques and shops selling the most innovative brands in town. Fancy something more bohemian? Marais is a paradise for vintage shopping with several pre-loved clothing shops.
An authentic Parisian neighbourhood, Marais supports many traditions. Marché des Enfants Rouge, the oldest market in Paris, can be found here. A popular destination for all Parisians to stock up on fresh produce, flowers and tasty dishes made on the spot.
Food, glorious food! Whatever you fancy, from a light snack to a five-star meal, Marais can deliver. A restaurant worth visiting for fine French cuisine and opera-singing servers is Le Bel Canto on the banks of the Seine. If all you have time for is a light snack, why not visit the many street food stalls selling anything from crêpes to noodles?
A quiet night in should be furthest from your mind in this area. There is so much to do, from live jazz in the cellar of 38′ Rivoli or visiting one of the lively and trendy bars. There are rooftop bars to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail whilst looking over the rooftops of Paris. Or bars offering singing, dancing, and karaoke.
Marais is an LGBT-friendly district and supports a flourishing gay scene of LGBT-friendly bars, clubs, and restaurants.
