Villa Grenache France
Holiday Home Rental Description
You’ll discover peaceful Villa Grenache surrounded by vineyards near the charming village of Curcuron, the perfect place to unwind and the ideal base for exploring Provence. This splendid eighteenth century house has been sensitively restored to create space and comfort whilst retaining the charm of its original Provençal features.
Here you are in the heart of the Luberon, much loved for its exquisite villages, expanses of springtime cherry blossom and fragrant summer lavender all softened by the wonderful light which inspired so many famous painters like Cézanne and Van Gogh. Heading southwards, you are only 35km from elegant Aix-en-Provence, the “City of a Thousand Fountains”.
Downstairs is particularly spacious for a three bedroomed home with a stunning high ceilinged dining and living room extension as well as the more traditional beamed living and dining rooms in the old house, connected by open arched doorways and painted in warm traditional colours. The dual aspect master bedroom has spectacular views and stretches the whole width of the house.
The kitchen has been completely refurbished and was designed by a professional chef so you should find everything you need for those simple or more elaborate recipes – you may prefer to visit one of the two Michelin starred restaurants within 5km of your holiday home!
To the front of the house is a south facing terrace for dining and relaxing, shaded by a vine covered pergola. The pool beyond the terrace is completely private and has plenty of lounging space while the garden is typical of Provence with its lawns, mature trees, hedges, roses and scented herbs.
Villa Grenache is situated just a short drive from two exquisite villages. Curcuron has a bakery, bar, small supermarket and is famous for its ancient plane tree shaded Bassin while Ansouis is one of Les Plus Beaux Villages in France.
There is walking, swimming, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and rock climbing to enjoy within the impressive Luberon landscapes. Whatever you decide to do, you will love returning to the comfort and peace of your holiday home in the country.Villa Grenache is in a rural location only a 2km drive from the charming village of Cucuron in the southern Luberon, around 35km north of Aix-en-Provence.
Cucuron is in the heart of the region’s Nature Park right at the foot of the Luberon Mountain. It is both picturesque and practical with a small supermarket, bakery, restaurants (including one with a Michelin star) and cafés. The Tuesday morning market takes place around the Bassin, a large pool of water in the main square shaded by ancient plane trees.
The hilltop village of Ansouis (5km) is one of Les Plus Beaux Villages in France, sheltered from the mistral with a Sunday morning market, ancient castle and a fine museum about wine-making. Food lovers, take note that there is yet another Michelin star restaurant here – why not compare it to the one in Cucuron!
Lourmarin (7km) is one of the Luberon’s most beloved villages and another of France’s “most beautiful” with a couple of good wine châteaux nearby. Vaugines (4km), a simple traditional village in the foothills of the mountains, has cinematic fame as some scenes of “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des Sources” were filmed here.
The amazing northern hilltop villages of the Luberon can also be visited for the day. At Bonnieux look across the Vaucluse plateau towards Lacoste. If you loved Peter Mayle’s “A Year in Provence”, take a trip to Ménerbes where it was set. Climb the rock at Saignon for more fine views and on a clear day you might glimpse Mont Ventoux.
Walkers will love the pretty vineyard trails and more intrepid hikers might try the spectacular Gorges de Régalon. It is delightful to cycle between idyllic villages or you might prefer to pass by the landscapes of olive groves and cherry orchards more sedately from the back of a horse.
The Durance river provides opportunities for kayaking and there is rock climbing over the dramatic river gorge at Buoux. Nearby Étang de la Bonde is a lovely spot for summer swimming and walks through the pine forest. If you prefer less action, just take a relaxing trip around the Luberon vineyards sampling some of the fine wines.
When you need a break from idyllic rural villages and pastoral delights, travel to Aix-en-Provence (35km), a lovely university town and centre for music, theatre and ballet with plenty of good restaurants and tea houses. Historic Avignon (75km), a longer day trip away, has two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the Papal Palace and the famous Benezet Bridge. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
