Petite Afrique is a bright contemporary holiday home near Bidart, ideal for friends or family who would like to make the most of the amazing surfing beaches of the Atlantic coast or simply explore glamorous Biarritz and other picturesque places in this wonderful part of southern France.
This fully air-conditioned, smart and well equipped three bedroom villa has everything you need for a comfortable and stress free holiday. The spacious living-dining area near the glossy open plan kitchen has wide sliding doors leading straight out to a heated swimming pool in the enclosed garden. Petite Afrique is simply but stylishly furnished with eye catching lighting features and splashes of colour to make you feel at home.
After a busy day on the beach, take a dip in your swimming pool before dining al-fresco on the terrace and, when the sun has set, step inside with a glass of wine and choose a film on the home cinema. One of the upstairs bedrooms enjoys a large panoramic window which makes the most of the countryside views with a glimpse of the hills in the far distance, lovely to wake up to.
In a neighbourhood just outside Bidart, the villa is about a 2km drive to the centre of this charming seaside village on the cliffs, where you can admire the pretty red and white Basque houses or relax on one of the restaurant terraces, admiring the views. Climb down the hill to the beach below or join the wonderful coastal trail which leads to Hendaye on the Spanish border.
The whole of this coastline, with its wild Atlantic waves, attracts surfers from around the world and is a great place to visit for a range of outdoor activities with its many golf courses, walking, riding and cycling trails. There are some great local surfing beaches such as Plage d’Illbarritz and around Guéthary, the heart of glitzy and bustling Biarritz is 6km to the north and family-friendly Saint-Jean-de-Luz is only a twenty-minute drive southwards.
Inland there are some lovely Basque villages to explore such as Sare, Ainhoa and La-Bastide-Clairence, all classified as three of the Plus Beaux Villages in France. From Sare, take the train up the Rhune mountain for incredible views of the coast and the Pyrenees or you might prefer to hike to the summit! Petite Afrique is located in a residential area around 2km from Bidart, just south of Biarritz in the Pyrenees-Atlantique region of southwestern France.
Bidart is a small hilltop town situated between the sea and the road to Saint-Jean-de-Luz where Basque countryside and coast meet to create a very special magic. Here are bright houses with white facades and red shutters, pretty shops, restaurant, cafés and beaches, at the base of green cliffs or on the roadside, loved by surfers as well as families looking for sandy bays.
The location also enables easy access to the surrounding region and Spanish border due to the villa’s proximity to the autoroute that connects Bayonne with Hendaye on the Spanish border (the nearest junction is a 5-minute drive away).
Saint-Jean-de-Luz, for example, is a lovely family-friendly seaside resort with a historic centre and a fine beach in a sheltered harbour, calmer than some of the other wilder spots along this Atlantic coast. The indoor market is sure to tempt you with Basque specialities such as cheese, fresh seafood, macaroons and other delicacies. Take a stroll over La Nivelle bridge to the charming harbour town of Ciboure where cafés beckon visitors to stop for coffee.
The whole of this coastline, with its wild Atlantic waves, is wonderful for surfers especially around Bidart, Guéthary and Plage de la Côte des Basques. Be sure to visit La Grande Plage, the beautiful central beach of Biarritz, with its striped beach tents, children’s beach clubs and nearby shops, cafés and restaurants. Look out for the Belle Époque Hôtel du Palais, which still retains vestiges of grandeur, or climb the fascinating lighthouse for some incredible views over Biarritz and the northern Anglet bays.  
The whole area is a paradise for golf lovers with courses ranging from local Golf d’Arcangue to prestigious NAS Golf Chiberta, just north of Biarritz, where you swing the club against a spectacular backdrop of ocean views. This region offers a huge range of outdoor activities including walking, horse-riding, fishing, cycling, canoeing as well as the many watersports along the coast. Walkers will particularly enjoy the challenge of the 15km Corniche coastal trail from St-Jean-de-Luz to Hendaye on the Spanish border (you can also start the hike in Bidart).
Take a break from the coast to explore idyllic inland Basque villages such as two of France’s Plus Beaux Villages, Ainhoa and Sare. From Sare, there is a little train to take you up the Rhune for incredible views of the coast and the French and Spanish Pyrenees mountain range or alternatively several hiking trails reach the summit.
