Just a short drive from the villa itself, is a wine estate called Domaine de la Grave, owned by the same family as Villa Artigue since 1876. You can explore the wine and Cooperage Museum, eat some cheese and fresh bread in the picnic area, and partake in fun tasting activities and oenological discoveries.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Saint-Émilion is just a ten-minute drive from the villa and is a must visit during your stay. This quaint, mediaeval village hosts nearly a million visitors a year, with exceptional architecture, gastronomy and underground galleries to explore.
One of the main drawers of this vibrant area has always been the wine. The renowned Médoc wine route is well worth exploring, starting in the vineyards of Bordeaux and travelling as far as Pointe de Grave. For something special, there is a nearby aerodrome which organise aerial tours over the wineries, coastline, and historic towns. From a bird’s eye view you can spot renowned châteaux, and picturesque scenery, giving the villa a sense of place in this beautiful landscape.
Saint-Émilion is not the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in the area, with the city of Bordeaux nearby as well. Overflowing with historic sites, monuments, and must-see spots, you can easily spend a day or two exploring the rich history of the city. La Cité du Vin and the vibrant restaurant scene are well worth visiting, making memories in this remarkable place.
A day at the beach never goes amiss, and Arcachon Bay is only an hour and a half from the villa.
