Domaine Des Collines France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Stay in two picture-perfect Dordogne houses set in the most beautiful gardens, right in the heart of Vézère valley, close to idyllic villages, atmospheric market towns and gastronomic delights of the Périgord Noir.
Sleeping up to 18 people, Domaine Des Collines is ideal for an extended family or group of friends; guests have exclusive use of the typically Périgordian
Clos Des Collines with five inviting en suite bedrooms as well as the especially elegant 4-bedroom
Moulin Des Collines, originally the estate’s old water mill.
Each house features a private terrace and barbecue, set in its own pretty grounds with ample space for relaxing beneath shady trees, playing ping-pong and boules or appreciating the charm of the Clos’ little stream. You can also benefit from the private tennis court, or you may simply prefer to venture to the woodland for peaceful walks in nature.
Everything about Domaine Des Collines is sure to impress, not only the immaculate restoration of both houses which exude historic character alongside contemporary style, but also welcoming touches such as the small basket of local produce on arrival, Egyptian cotton bed linen, bathrobes and complimentary toiletries. Guests can also arrange for fresh bread and croissants to be delivered each morning from the local boulangerie.
Part of a larger 150-acre estate, featuring a fairytale-style château on the hill above, there is so much to explore beyond your picturesque surroundings. Drive only 10km towards Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère, one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’, for idyllic picnics or summer swimming, before venturing to the pre-historic sites so famous across the Vézère valley including the caves of Rouffignac and Lascaux and the village of Les Eyzies.
Seek out seasonal treasures at Dordogne markets in Montignac-Lascaux, Sarlat-la-Canéda and Périgueux, looking out for foie gras, truffles, cheeses, chestnuts and more. Then take time to admire the bucolic beauty of the Dordogne River with gems such as Limeuil, Domme and La Roque-Gageac and Château de Beynac within easy reach, perfect for a wonderful day out in this alluring part of southern France. In the heart of the Vézère valley with glorious views of the Dordogne countryside, Domaine Des Collines is part of a large 150-acre estate which also features a historic château on a hill above the two houses. It’s only a 3km drive to a small village and around a 20-minute drive from the riverside market town of Montignac-Lascaux and the famous village of Les Eyzies.
There are some lovely walks in the surrounding woodland and beyond through the beautiful Dordogne landscapes. The local village, a 5-minute drive away, has a café-restaurant for lunch as well as a small organic shop. Further amenities can be found in Rouffignac (10km) and Montignac (15km) including a twice-weekly market in the riverside town and canoeing opportunities along the Vézère.
The Vézère valley is known for its many pre-historic sites – the well-known village of Les Eyzies is reached within a 20-minute drive whilst the famous Lascaux caves are close to Montignac-Lascaux, including the new and impressive Lascaux IV Centre International de l’Art Pariétal. Also close to your holiday home, the largest prehistoric cave in the Périgord Noir, Grotte de Rouffignac, is another great trip out – tour the cave by electric train.
As you explore the region, discover picture-perfect villages dotted across the Dordogne such as Saint-Amand-de-Coly (25km) and Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (9km), both officially classified as two of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’. In the height of the summer, locals swim in the river near Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère and it is also an idyllic spot for picnics.
The Vézère and Dordogne rivers converge in the picturesque village of Limeuil (28km), another attractive place for summer paddling on the river’s beach, whilst Trémolat will appeal to food lovers with its Michelin starred restaurant, Le Vieux Logis. Indeed, gourmands will no doubt spend time enjoying the fine gastronomy of this region across bistros, restaurants and atmospheric markets. If staying in the summer then look out for Marchés Gourmands, night markets, taking place in Dordogne villages and towns in late July and August.
Sarlat-la-Canéda (30km) has a fine reputation for its food in its restaurants and bustling markets, as does the small but fine city of Périgueux (41km) – seek out seasonal delights such as foie gras, cheeses, truffles, chestnuts, walnuts, honey and more.
Some of the Dordogne River’s iconic villages and châteaux can also be reached for a great day out including the beautiful Château de Beynac (31km), the gorgeous village of Domme (42km) and La Roque-Gageac (40km) with its stunning houses along the riverside.
