Maison Saint Pierre France
Holiday Home Rental Description
Stay in a characterful Dordogne abode with its own heated swimming pool and rural views, only a 5-minute drive to Monpazier, one of France’s ‘Plus Beaux Villages’.
We love how the original features of Maison Saint Pierre exude such charm from the thick stone walls that keep the interiors cool in the summertime to the exposed wood beams across the spacious lounge and garden room. Yet there are also ample modern touches including a 65-inch Smart TV with Netflix, remote-controlled ceiling fans in the bedrooms and a bright kitchen for preparing wonderful meals.
One master en suite double and two twins that share a contemporary bathroom with walk-in Italian shower allows up to six guests to stay in this comfortable home. A maison next door is also rented out by the owner if you need extra space – please enquire for prices and availability.
Outside in the south-facing garden you can make the most of the heated salt-water swimming pool or simply relax on the al-fresco terrace, then fire up the barbecue. With open grounds, there’s a feeling of rural calm as you look out towards the trees, étang and countryside landscapes.
Picture-perfect Monpazier, one of the Dordogne’s most beautifully preserved bastide villages, is only 6km away by car. The 700-year old Thursday morning market is a joy and there are many excellent restaurants and pretty shops.
Other Dordogne gems include picturesque Issigeac with its Sunday morning market, the historic towns of Belvès and Beaumont-du-Périgord as well as Bergerac and its Maison des Vins. Picnic by the banks of the Dordogne or hire canoes in Le Buisson-de-Cadouin, under half an hour away, and venture towards the gorgeous riverside villages of Beynac-et-Cazenac, La Roque-Gageac and Domme.
Heading south towards the Lot River, visit much-loved spots such as Monflanquin, Puy-l’Évêque whilst wine-lovers will be keen to spend the day in Cahors, such a handsome town surrounded by Malbec-producing vineyards creating some of the finest wines in the world. Close to the border between the Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne, Maison Saint Pierre is only 6km from Monpazier, one of France’s classified ‘Plus Beaux Villages’ and just half an hour south of the Dordogne River.
The property (Maison Saint Pierre, it’s neighbouring rental and the owners) is in a small hamlet in an otherwise rural setting of glorious countryside and woodland with an étang (large pond) just beyond the unfenced grounds.
A five-minute drive takes you to the 13th century bastide village of Monpazier, such a beautiful place with its exquisitely preserved medieval heritage and arcaded square which hosts a centuries-old market on a Thursday morning as well as a flower market in May. There are several restaurants in the village as well as pretty shops; it’s beauty and ambience attracts visitors from across the Dordogne.
Other significant Dordogne villages and towns include Issigeac (35km) with its gorgeous Sunday morning market, the bastide towns of Belvès and Beaumont-du-Périgord, both around a 20-minute drive away, and of course historic Bergerac (50km), known for its picturesque riverside setting, boat trips along the Dordogne, Maison des Vins and surrounding vineyards including Château de Monbazillac just south of the town.
Also on the banks of the Dordogne, Le Buisson-de-Cadouin (26km) is a good spot for riverside picnics and canoeing/kayaking or head further east towards picture-perfect villages and impressive Dordogne châteaux around Beynac-et-Cazenac, La Roque-Gageac and Domme, all within a 45-minute drive.
This location also benefits from the wonderful landscapes of the Lot-et-Garonne and Lot departments to the south and more idyllic places such as Monflanquin (28km), Villeréal (20km), Puy-l’Évêque (30km) and even Cahors (58km), a handsome historic town with excellent restaurants and famous vineyards producing some of the finest Malbecs in the world.
The lovely honey-coloured houses of Gourdon (45km) and the incredible scenery of Rocamadour (74km), an important pilgrimage site since the middle ages, are both ideal for a fantastic day out across this diverse and fascinating part of southern France.
