Set in a quiet village in Poitou-Charentes, surrounded by magical landscapes of French sunflowers, La Grange Charentaise is a country home that has been beautifully renovated, surrounded by secluded gardens and a wonderful swimming pool.
Spend time with family or friends in the spacious living area with its welcoming furnishings, wood-burning fire and French doors leading out to the sun-filled terrace. A smart contemporary kitchen features exposed stone walls and a long dining table designed for convivial meals with loved ones or step outside to dine al-fresco on warm summery evenings. Kids will love the games room upstairs where they can kick back on the sofa with the PlayStation, play a game of darts or table football.
Five lovely double bedrooms feature across this two-storey home, each one styled with an air of simplicity yet great taste. Downstairs an elegant double bedroom features fine French furnishings and has doors opening out to a picturesque terrace whilst upstairs the master bedroom has a super king-size bed and another room features two pretty doubles. Sleeping up to ten guests comfortably, it’s an ideal home for an extended family or group of friends.
The characterful gardens are fully enclosed and filled with leafy trees alongside a gated swimming pool for hours of family fun. Lounge in the sunshine, play table tennis or sit back with a glass of wine and admire the rustic charm of the home with its exposed stone and pretty shutters.
When you’re ready to leave your relaxing idyll, historic towns such as Ruffec, Verteuil-sur-Charente and Nanteuil-en-Vallée are beautiful places to discover or head further afield to the great cities of Poitiers and Angoulême. Brandy lovers can visit the famous houses of Jarnac or spend time exploring the enchanting old town of Cognac, both only an hour away.
Closer to home, discover delightful restaurants within a short drive serving excellent French cuisine with good wines and potter around nearby towns on market day, picking up wonderful seasonal produce grown locally. Wander through idyllic fields of sunflowers, cycle on quiet lanes, canoe along the Charente river or explore historic châteaux and abbeys so close. This really is a mesmerising region where you can experience the true authenticity of the Poitou-Charentes.La Grange Charentaise enjoys a wonderful location in a pretty rural village surrounded by summer sunflowers in the Deux-Sèvres department, Poitou-Charentes, an hour south of Poitiers in western France.
There are some very good restaurants within a short drive, including a great little wine-bar serving excellent food just a five-minute drive away (book in advance!).
The nearest town, Sauzé-Vaussais, is 5km away where you will find a boulangerie, supermarket, bank, pharmacy and a lovely Thursday morning market. There are other atmospheric markets in nearby towns such as Chaunay (18km) on a Monday, Civray (20km) and Lezay (20km) on a Tuesday, Chef-Boutonne (11km) on a Saturday and Ruffec (16km) on a Wednesday and Saturday.
This is a glorious region for walking and cycling with many paths through sunflower fields, woodland and picturesque countryside, plus there is horse-riding in nearby Breuil-Coiffault. There are also beautiful châteaux to explore, such as Château de Javarzay near Chef-Boutonne, and the charming castle in beautiful Verteuil-sur-Charente (22km), a delightful place on the banks of the Charente. History lovers shouldn’t miss the incredible Abbaye de Saint Amant de Boixe (44km), which is over 1000 years old.
Ruffec (16km) is also a town filled with history, on the banks of the Lien river, whilst a little further south-west you will find Nanteuil-en-Vallée (30km), known as a ‘Petite Cité de Caractère’. Here you will find many pretty houses, some dating as far back as the 12th century as well as the beautiful Jardins de l’Argentor, an especially pretty place to explore.
This is also a good area for river sports with a centre near Condac/Rejellant (18km) that offers canoes, kayaks, pedalos and stand-up paddle boarding along the Charente river in the summer months.
Further afield, there are some fantastic towns and cities to explore for the day such as the typical town of Niort (54km), surrounded by the beautiful waterways of the Marais Poitevin, and historic Poitiers (65km) with its 12th century famous church, Notre-Dame-La-Grande.
Heading south, the beautiful city of Angoulême (63km) as well as Cognac (63km) and Jarnac (60km) are great places to visit, especially for lovers of cognac and brandy.
