Rental Description

The wonderful Villa Gypsum is nestled in the small rural village of Alikianos, just 12km from Chania Town and 9km from the coast. You reach the villa through the lush green valley of the Keritis River to discover this contemporary gem, surrounded by nature. Rich in orange trees, the area is one of Crete’s most fertile and most of the villagers work in agriculture and cattle breeding. Villa Gypsum boasts six exceptional bedrooms, fantastic open-plan living space, an idyllic terrace and beautiful gardens.  Alikianos is a delightful, charming village where you can pick up groceries and enjoy the scenery. Within very easy reach you can visit Chania Old Town, Kalimaki and Agia Marina. Kalamaki is wonderful with glistening soft sands, warm, turquoise sea, a fantastic range of restaurants, bars and tavernas plus a variety of shops. Chania Old Town is one of the most alluring, captivating towns of Crete. The Venetian port is just 12km from the villa. With picturesque, narrow alleys draped with colourful bougainvillea, a fabulous dining scene, atmospheric bars, the most amazing sunsets and gorgeous little boutiques lining the cobbled streets, you will quickly lose your heart and want to return time and time again. Crete is also home to three of the most sensational beaches in all of Greece, Balos Beach, Elafonisi and Falasarna. You really must try and visit at least one of them during your stay. Villa Gypsum is newly built, an architectural gem in anthracite grey. It is trendy, super cool and perfect for large groups of guests. It sits on a dreamy 2000 sqm plot. The villa is built over two levels with three bedrooms on the lower ground level and the remaining three bedrooms and living spaces above. The living space is open plan in design with a gorgeous sociable kitchen, a smart dining space and just a few steps lower, an exquisite living area. Interior designers have waved their magic wands to make this a fantastic space which you will be reluctant to leave. The kitchen, also in stylish anthracite grey, comes with a central island with stools, a breakfast table and the very best appliances which will thrill the chefs in your group. Under a beautiful contemporary light, the dining area is off to one side with gorgeous garden and hillside views. The sunken living space is a total delight with a central modern fireplace surrounded by giant picture windows which drown it in light and offer superb garden views. A sumptuous corner sofa takes pride of place with trendy stools for extra seating. A huge Smart television is provided for your entertainment. Natural materials are blended beautifully with this modern design to create a calm and comfortable ambience.  The six bedrooms are beautifully appointed with trendy open wardrobes, contemporary beds adorned with crisp cottons and beautiful soft furnishings and cooling tiled floors. There are five immaculate bathrooms, all with the very best fittings, gorgeous tiles and a mix of showers and baths. Some of the bedrooms open to furnished terraces or balconies.  The outdoor spaces are gorgeous. The pool is surrounded by luxury loungers and umbrellas where you can enjoy your holiday books and the wonderful scenery. There are two dining areas, one under a modern pergola for shade and with a gas barbecue where your barbecue masters can prepare a feast. A beautifully furnished shaded alfresco lounge space is perfect for pre-dinner drinks and family games.  Villa Gypsum is a fabulous choice for large groups of guests looking to totally relax and enjoy each other’s company while still being close to Crete’s sensational beaches and the Old Town of Chania. Villa Gypsum is located in the peaceful, sleepy village of Alikianos, 12km from the Old Town of Chania and 9km from the nearest beach. It is a lovely spot with an ancient bridge that crosses the River Keritis, modern and traditional stone houses and several war monuments as well as a village shop and bakery. The ancient Tower Da Molin once belonged to a Venetian ruler of the region in the Middle Ages. According to local legend, the tower is haunted. Ten to fifteen minutes away, Kalamaki is a very friendly, laid-back resort just outside of Chania. With a gorgeous sandy beach, crystal clear water, amazing restaurants and tavernas and some useful shops, it is a great place to be. The beach restaurants are wonderful and generally always offer a glass of raki and some fruit or a dinky pudding as a treat afterwards. There is a good range of restaurants, some serving traditional Greek specialities and others offering fine dining such Corinna Star at Corinna Mare and the restaurant at the Domes Noruz Chania Hotel.  Known as the Venice of the East, Chania Old Town is truly magical with unique shops lining its charming cobbled streets, a brilliant dining scene, trendy waterfront bars serving delicious cocktails and its famous Venetian harbour and imposing lighthouse. It is very easy to drive in from the villa. The harbour was originally built by the Venetians between 1320 and 1356 and is now a vibrant, cosmopolitan spot for tourists and locals. The Egyptian lighthouse is much photographed, especially at sunset. You can take a slow meander to the lighthouse to take in the stunning views of the harbour, the Old Town with its backdrop of the majestic White Mountains. On the waterfront, the Giali Tzamisi is the oldest Muslim building in Crete. The Turkish name is translated to ‘The Seaside Mosque’. It plays host to various cultural events and exhibitions. One visit to Chania Old Town will not be enough! After the Minoan Palace of Knossos, the second most visited tourist attraction in Crete is the dramatic and imposing Samaria Gorge. It is the longest and most famous gorge in Europe, sitting at the foothills of the White Mountains. Within the White Mountain’s National Park, it rises to an altitude of 1,230m, is 150m at its widest point and 3m at its narrowest. It continues down to Agia Roumeli on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. The park and gorge offer protection to over four hundred and fifty species of plant and animal, of which seventy are endemic to Crete. This includes the rare wild kri-kri goats.  If you get time to visit one of Balos, Elafonisi and Falasarna beaches, you will remember them forever. In the protected ‘NATURA’ area of Balos Bay, Balos’ glistening white sand and turquoise sea are incredible. Not far away is the Cretan wonder, Falasarna, another nestled lagoon with pool-like waters and pink sand. It has been awarded the best beach of Crete and one of the top ten beaches in Europe. Elafonisi has also been named one of the world’s top beaches. It is connected by a sand bar to an island nature reserve with pink sands, wildflowers and unusual rock formations. There is no shade on the island but there are delightful little coves and pockets of sandy beach as well as being home to more than one hundred rare plants including summer sea daffodils and winter-flowering Androcymbium rechingeri. You may even see rare loggerhead sea turtles and you will definitely enjoy picture-perfect sunsets.  At Excellence Luxury Villas, we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
