Villa Hexagon is nestled in the lush green hills above Kontokali. This fabulous, modern villa is surrounded by lush gardens. Kontokali is located next to Gouvia on the Gulf of Gouvia and within very easy reach of Corfu Town. The resort enjoys an excellent selection of shops, bars and restaurants, many of them serving fresh fish of the day. Kontokali blends into its next-door neighbour Gouvia so you can easily enjoy Gouvia’s beach too. Kontokali’s beach is tucked into the headland that keeps the bay away from the Ionian Sea and Gouvia’s, a sand and pebble beauty is a ten minute stroll away, sitting beside the long-standing leftovers of its Venetian shipyard. Gouvia’s bustling marina boasts many fine dining restaurants and charming tavernas. Visitors can take boat trips to explore the north of Corfu or the nearest islands. The views from Gouvia are really stunning with the sparkling Ionian Sea and Corfu Town on the horizon.
Corfu Town, the birthplace of the late Duke of Edinburgh, is one of the most beautiful, graceful and elegant towns in Greece. Corfu Town falls between two great Venetian coastal fortresses and within lies a very modern capital brimming with elegant mansions, magnificent palaces, beautiful squares and no fewer than thirty nine churches including the beautiful Church of Saint Spiridon. The Duke of Edinburgh was born at the fabulous Mon Repos Palace. Next to the palace gardens you will find the calm waters of the Mon Repos Beach. To the north, you will find Faliraki Beach. The town’s stunning architecture has many influences including Sicilian, Venetian, French and English. The entire Old Town is declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, a tightly-packed warren of cobbled winding lanes bursting with lively bars, boutiques and fine restaurants. You will also see timeless alleys with the day’s washing stretching from balcony to balcony, such a pretty scene, especially with colourful bougainvillea draped everywhere. There are also some interesting museums including the Byzantine Museum of Corfu which is housed in a 15th century church. Others are the Museum of Ceramic Art, the D Solomos Museum and the Asian Art Museum. The Old Fortress has been around since the 1500’s when it was built by the Venetians. You can cross a bridge over the moat to reach the citadel and the walled courtyards, then head to the Church of St George on the waterside.
The beautiful, hilly village of Paleokastritsa is also within easy reach of the villa. It is known for its stunning coastal scenery which winds around a series of gorgeous bays, ending at the 18th century Paleokastritsa Monastery. The village is set in the middle of a clover-shaped bay surrounded by olive groves and forested woodland. The coves are beautiful and there is a picturesque, colourful little port five minutes’ walk from the village centre. The main beach is Agios Spyridon which enjoys glistening white sand and turquoise water. You can take a water taxi from this beach to the more secluded coves.
North of Corfu Town is The White House in Kalami, best known as the former residence of British author, Lawrence Durrell. Lawrence lived at the house in the 1930’s with his wife Nancy. Their Kalami home was regularly visited by his family including the young Gerald Durrell who later became a leading conservationist and popular author. You can visit The White House which has been owned by the Atheneos family for generations for a holiday experience about literary history, Greek hospitality and fresh seafood! The village of Kalami is surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea, a beautiful peaceful spot.
