Stay in style when you vacation at the super swish Villa Calix, on the south coast of the ultra-fashionable island of Mykonos, in the heart of the Aegean Sea. This new build villa for 2022 is a Smart House, where you can control the air conditioning and lighting from a touchscreen. The two-storey detached property is built on an impressive four thousand square metre plot, which is surrounded by a natural stone wall, enclosing a paved terrace, private infinity swimming pool, ancient olive trees, and flowering shrubs.
Villa Calix is home to three spacious en suite double bedrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to six guests, ideal for a family or friend’s get-together holiday. For peace of mind and privacy, there is an overnight security guard from 11 pm until 7 am every day, CCTV cameras, safety boxes in every bedroom, and an alarm system. The luxury villa is a spacious three hundred and ten square metres and comes complete with private parking, and complimentary Wi-Fi and air conditioning throughout. The exterior is built of classic Cycladic white-washed walls and local stone, with floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that open to let in lots of natural lights and cool sea breezes. The interiors are effortlessly elegant, furnished with contemporary pieces, natural wood, unique modern art and artefacts, and decorated in a calming palette of white, black, grey, and beige neutrals, with the odd splash of orange for a touch of colour.
Enter the villa at the ground floor level, where you will find a very spacious holiday home of light and airy open-plan living. A large entrance hall with traditional Cycladic arches opens onto a stone wall seating area, with floor-to-ceiling doors that lead directly onto the pool terrace. There is a wrap-around L-shaped grey sofa, with wooden coffee and side tables, hand-crafted pouffes, and a flat-screen television. The adjacent dining area has a long wooden ten-seater table, ideal for some seriously impressive indoor entertaining. The all-white seriously smart kitchen is fully equipped with Smeg appliances, including a family-size fridge freezer, built-in oven and hob, a breakfast bar, and that must-have morning coffee maker. Go down the hall to the first of the three double ensuite bedrooms. All three bedrooms are beautifully appointed, with queen size beds, mini-fridges, smart televisions, safe boxes, ceiling fans, and sea views. The ground-floor bedroom has an ensuite shower room, that opens directly onto the pool terrace, and is perfect for guests with mobility issues. A guest cloakroom completes the ground floor. Take the exquisite wooden stairs to the first floor, where there are two bedroom suites, each with a lounge area, open plan bathrooms with rainfall showers, and access to a small sea view balcony.
The terrace is just terrific, with stunning sea views, a fabulous water feature, and an eighty square metre step entry infinity swimming pool. The pool is surrounded by a deep cushioned state of the art grey sun loungers, and big shady orange brollies, strategically positioned for maximum sea views. Swim a few lengths, then cool off under the poolside shower. Meet for cocktails on the terrace to watch the sunset, before dining alfresco at the eight-seater table.Villa Calix is located on the southwest coast of fashionable Mykonos, part of the Cyclades islands in the heart of the Aegean Sea. The exclusive island of Mykonos measures only ten kilometres long by fifteen kilometres wide, so wherever you want to go it’s only a short drive away. The villa is just four kilometres from Mykonos airport, which is served by both local and international flight operators.If you are island hopping, then nearby Naxos and Syros also have their own airports. The new port of Mykonos is a hub of activity for those landing and departing from island hopping ferries, or super yachts cruising the Aegean, and is a quick twenty-minute drive to the villa.
The villa is situated only slightly inland, with stunning sea views overlooking the sandy beach of Platis Gialos. The village of Ornos is to the north and has two beaches, streets lined with traditional tavernas, and a harbour with boats that can take you to local beaches and nearby Delos. Villa Calix is near the village of Psarou, with a white sandy beach, and local shops for your holiday provisions. Nearby is Korfos for kitesurfing, and the fabulous uber-trendy Buddha Beach Bar for some serious fun in the sun. Treat yourself to a luxury treatment at Santa Maria’s Ginkgo Spa. To the south is Elia and Agrari beaches, offering a selection of water sports, a children’s playground, cafes and bars, and calm sea waters.
The coastline is populated by many beautiful golden sandy beaches, take your pick from the nudist Elia beach to the family-friendly favourite of Agios Ioannis, or party, party, party all day long on Super Paradise Beach, with its crystal clear waters, restaurants, bars, and clubs with resident DJs. During daylight hours play penance in one of the eight hundred churches that populate the island, most notably Paraportiani, which is a unique construction combining four styles of architecture. Pay a visit to Mykonos old town, known locally as Chora, only four kilometres from the villa. Here you can wander the maze of streets with the colourful Cycladic houses, and do some serious designer-label shopping in one of the many luxury boutiques. Book a table at a seafront restaurant and enjoy a dish of freshly caught seafood, whilst sipping ouzo and watching the beautiful people pass by.
Find out the island’s history and culture at the Archaeological Museum, the Folk Museum, and the Maritime Museum, then go out of town to Lena’s House to discover how the islanders lived. Take a walk up to the landmark windmills, known as Kato Mili, where once the wheat was ground to make bread and is now a mini museum and residencies. Walk along the waterfront to Little Venice, where original merchant houses overhang the sea, and is now home to cafes, bars, restaurants, and galleries, best enjoyed at sunset with a retsina or two. Admire the Armenistis lighthouse, still fully functioning and an essential asset of Mykonos’ maritime history. No visit to Mykonos is complete without a day at sea, join a catamaran jolly and snorkel in the sea, or charter your own yacht and discover secret coves and hidden bays and beaches. For the romantics, nothing beats a sunset cruise, cocktail in hand as the sun sets over the horizon.
The quiet inland village of Ano Mera is eight kilometres from the villa, home to the restored sixteenth-century monastery of Panagia Tourliani, with a beautiful bell tower, marble fountain, and original icons. Walk the cobbled streets, and stop for a coffee and pastry at one of its outdoor cafes. Further afield the uninhabited island of Delos is well worth a visit, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the birthplace of Zeus and Leto, go with a group or arrange your own private tour.
