Get away from it all with a stay in the traditional Cretan Villa Drew, superbly positioned on a hillside, betwixt backdrop mountains and turquoise seas, with sweeping views across the beautiful Bay of Mirabello, on the eastern side of the island. This unique one-storey, one hundred and twenty square metre villa, has three bedrooms, and two shower rooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to six guests, ideal for a family holiday or friends sharing.
The villa is in a secluded area, away from the tourist hot spots. on a promontory of a rocky cliff face, built of local stone, and smooth paved paths walk you through the grounds. Villa Drew is surrounded by mature well-maintained gardens and surrounded by a two-metre fence which gives both shade, and privacy from its nearest neighbour. The property comes with two private parking spaces, a hire car is highly recommended, both to access the property and to visit all the sights you will surely want to see. For your comfort and entertainment, the villa has complimentary air-conditioning and Wi-Fi throughout, as well as a private swimming pool, and a mini football pitch. Villa Drew has been furnished with traditional Cretan pieces, wood beam ceilings, decorated with classic white-washed walls, and dressed with original artefacts, to create a relaxing holiday home from home ambience.
Enter the property down the paved path, that takes you to a light and airy open-plan living space. The seating area has two comfy white wooden yellow-cushioned sofas, handcrafted wood coffee tables, a scattering of antique rugs, a flat-screen television with a selection of international channels, and a DVD and Blu-Ray player. At the end of the room there is an open wood burning fire for those cooler months and chilly evenings. The adjacent smart wood dining table has six chairs, and is ideal for some indoor entertaining. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you will need to cater for a happy holiday, including a huge family-size fridge freezer, an oven and hob, a washing machine and dishwasher, and a cute little breakfast bar too. Walk down the hall to the master bedroom, with a large double bed, fitted wardrobes, and an en suite shower room with a walk-in shower and stone hand basin. The second bedroom has a white wrought iron double bed and French doors which lead onto the terrace, with azure blue sea views. The third bedroom has two single white wrought iron beds, a bedside table, and a wardrobe. There is a shared bathroom with a walk-in shower and a hewn rock stone hand basin.
Access the terrace and gardens via the living space and two of the bedrooms, where you will be welcomed with stunning sea views, and an arched window-shaped swimming pool. The pool has easy entry Roman steps and is long enough for a few lengths before breakfast. The pool is surrounded by sun loungers, and a built-in cushioned seating area with cobalt blue sea views. For your comfort and relaxation, the terrace is dotted with soft comfy cushioned seating areas, and reclining chairs, perfect for morning coffee catch-ups, or cocktails at sunset. Choose from two separate eating areas, opt for the more informal laid back barbeque space, or engage in some impressive alfresco entertaining under the Cretan stars at the eight seater dining table with director’s chairs.Villa Drew is located on the eastern coast of the island of Crete, in the heart of the Grecian Mediterranean Sea. The villa is built into the unspoilt natural wild hillside of a rocky promontory with magnificent sea views across the Bay of Mirabello to Agios Nikolaos, and beyond to the isle of Psira. The nearest international airport is Heraklion, ninety kilometres away, allow a good hour and a half drive to get to your destination. Car hire is essential to access Villa Drew, as there are long distances and rough roads to get to it, and the nearest tourist town is half an hour away. 
The nearest village is five kilometres from the villa, historic Kavousi has a minimart, kafenio coffee bars, and a few traditional tavernas. The closest beach is Tholos, only a five minute drive to a secluded pebbly beach with shady pine trees, and a cafe. Other nearby beaches well worth a visit are the contrasting wild Agrimandra, or further down the coast, hit the white sands of Voulisma with its crystal clear turquoise sea, water sports, sun beds and brollies, and cafes and tavernas. For those who like a bit of activity there is the opportunity to hike, trek, or cycle the Thripti mountain range with a peak of 1476m. Or drive down to discover the nearby wild Gorge Ha, formed from a tectonic earthquake. Don’t miss a visit to the monumental olive tree in Azorias, a kilometre south of the village of Kavousi, it is one of the oldest olive trees in the world. Whilst the small uninhabited island of Psira, which you can see from the villa, is rich in Minoan history and populated with lots of sandy beaches. The nearest town is Ierapetra, with a bustling seafront promenade that has lots of cafes, bars, and tavernas to sample some local delights. Agios Nikolaos at twenty five kilometres away on the north coast is a holiday hot spot, take a trip into town and wander the ancient streets.
In Agios Nikolaos you will find inviting shops selling local crafts, take sanctuary in one of its twenty eight churches, and find peace and quiet in the seven monasteries. Discover Cretan culture in the Folk Art Museum, full of textiles, pottery, furniture, and religious iconography. Have fun admiring contemporary street art as you climb the Spirit of the Stairs. In the heart of the town lies Lake Voulismeni, once believed to be bottomless, it is actually sixty four metres deep at the centre and home to the statues of Athena and Artemis. Further afield you can explore the Cave of Zeus, where the king of the Greek gods was hidden by his mother Rhea and nourished by the goat Almathea. For lovers of luxury head out to the town of Elounda, stroll down streets selling exclusive designer brands, and stop in cosy tavernas where you can star-spot over coffee. From Elounda take the ferry to the island of Spinalonga, once a former leper colony until as recently as 1957, now turned into an open-air museum, with its ancient fortifications, and a sixteenth-century Venetian fortress, it was made famous in the book The Island by Victoria Hislop, and is now used for many a film set.
Don’t miss a visit to the local Cretan Olive Oil Farm, sample the delights of the annual harvest and take a bottle of the golden nectar home with you. Crete is populated with historic sites and sights, for the archaeologists, nearby is Gournia, or for the more spiritually inclined, Faneromeni Monastery is well worth a visit. Drive to the Dikte Mountains to discover a bit of Byzantine culture, most especially the Church of Panagiakera with its beautiful thirteenth-century frescoes. For those of you who want to adventure further afield join a guided tour to see the Richtis Waterfall, the sunken city of Olous, the Palace of Knossos, and the city of Heraklion, where you can learn all about Minoan and Cretan history and culture.
