Lazarata is a breezy pretty village in the north of Lefkada where a former tavern has been turned into the first pub brewery in Greece. In the summer, the microbrewery also serves delicious pizzas, tarte flambee and homemade surprises. In the winter, creativity runs and will surprise everyone. The craft beer is delicious. Lazarata is a little larger than its neighbouring villages of Asprogerakata, Pinakochori and Kavallos. The nearby village of Karya is one of the largest villages on the island, with a wonderful museum and lots of opportunities to buy handmade crafts. Villa Biotite is surrounded by lush hills sprinkled with trees, vineyards, olive groves and farmland. Not far from the villa are the seaside villages and towns of Agios Nikitas, Nikiana, Nidri and Lefkada Town and the beautiful beaches of Pefkoulia, Milos, Kalamitsi, Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Kathisma. Villa Biotite looks very pretty with its mellow stone walls and bright green shutters and doors. Inside, you will enjoy its simplicity and minimalist styling. The living area offers charming exposed stone walls, a high beamed ceiling and a homey ambience. There is a modern corner sofa, a feature fireplace, a little dining table for two and a kitchenette. Its scenic hilly countryside is sprinkled with quaint hilltop villages such as Lazarata. You can climb mountain peaks and walk or cycle along the many trails, captivated by the gorgeous scenery. Some of best places to see are the Skari Mountain with its centenarian oak trees, the gorge of Melissa, the water springs of Dafni and Kersia and Elati Mountain. When hiking, you will enjoy exploring ancient monasteries, small churches and gorgeous villages. The mountain village of Karya, is lovely with its central square full of busy taverna tables under the shade of a huge plant tree. Visitors enjoy the local Karysaniki embroidery, once a vital part of the national dress. North-east of Karya and surrounded by towering cypress trees, mountain scenery and craggy cliffs is Lazarata, the nearest village to Villa Biotite. It boasts two notable churches, Agios Dionissis and Agios Spiridonas as well as some friendly cafes, restaurants, a bakery and shops. Lazarata is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, citrus plantations and red-roofed houses. Nearby are the sleepy villages of Asprogeratkata, Kavallos and Pinakochori. You can take an organised mountain bike tour of the island, a great way to see the island from a different perspective. Some cycling tours also include the stunning neighbouring island of Meganisi. It is quite remarkable that Lefkas remains under the tourist radar and feels like a special secret. Pefkoulia, Milos and Kathisma beaches are all close to Villa Biotite. Milos is wonderful. Kathisma Beach faces the Ionian archipelago, offering fine dazzling white sand, sparkling turquoise waters and a good selection of beach bars and sun loungers. Pefkoulia Beach is an impressive sandy beach close to the fishing village of Agios Nikitas. The beach can get quite crowded in the summer as it is so popular. Among the island’s most beautiful beaches are Egremni, Kathisma and the mesmerising Porto Katsiki which is loved for its golden sands and fascinating landscape. The unique beauty of Egremni’s two and a half kilometre beach has made it one of the most photographed landscapes on the island. Its name comes from the impressive cliffs that surround the beach. The best beaches for windsurfing and kitesurfing are Agios Ioannis and Vassiliki. Nidri Beach is very organised with an excellent watersports centre and plenty of loungers, parasols and beach bars. Nidri is the largest of the tourist towns with Nikiana is the second. The town boasts an endless list of amenities and activities, irresistible sandy beaches, unforgettable views, an excellent dining scene and beautiful scenery. Nidri and Sivota are favourites with yacht charter firms. Island hopping is very popular, very easy and very enjoyable. Excursion boats can take you to the local islets and the secluded coastal bays of Lefkas. Ferries can take you to Ithaca and Kefalonia. The gorgeous Geni peninsula is a fifteen minute drive around the bay from Nidri or a five minute crossing by boat. Geni village is a friendly, traditional fishing village where you will be made to feel very welcome in its charming waterfront tavernas. Another fabulous place to visit is the medieval castle of Santa Maura. Wine lovers enjoy Lefkas Earth, the home of some fine local wines. You can combine this stop with a fresh seafood lunch overlooking the brilliant blue waters at Sivota or Vasiliki. At Excellence Luxury Villas, we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
