Villa Martha Greece

Luxury Villas
|2 Bedrooms|

Rental Description

A charming, retro-styled villa on the beautiful island of Lefkas with heritage stone exteriors and an emphasis on outdoor living. Villa Martha boasts an incredible jade green rooftop pool – jump in and soak up the stunning views of the forestry that stretches all the way to the glittering sea. There are four sunbeds by the pool where you can bask in the Mediterranean sunshine. On arrival at this villa, you’ll receive a welcome basket from the villa staff that includes fresh bread, coffee, fruit, wine and honey from the region.
Located on the fourth floor, the setting offers privacy yet the opportunity to meet other families staying in the villa complex. Enter through a stepping stone path and gaze up at the awe-inspiring fortification walls and quirky stonework. There is an expansive garden with Mediterranean trees and plants and lots of terrace space made up of edgy, irregular tiles and punctuated with oversized daisies. Dine outside around the wooden table with fresh white linen, surrounded by trees and luscious greenery.
Moving through into the living space, take note of the carefully curated interiors that provide a homely yet stylish feel. Flashes of sage green soft furnishings and forest green shutters give the minimalist white walls an elegant touch. There is a satellite television for the whole family to enjoy. A focal point is the traditional, stone fireplace that extends up to the ceiling in a triangle shape – so unique!
The kitchen is decorated in retro peach and is well equipped for those who enjoy self-catering. Rustle up a delicious Mediterranean feast or some home comforts, or alternatively, pick up some food from a local taverna. There is an oven and two kinds of coffee machine – espresso and French press. In this area, there is a sofa that doubles as an extra bed for two people. There is also dining space for four people around a French country-inspired white table. Gossamer-like white drapes flutter at the windows.
A dramatic stone staircase leads up to two chic bedrooms with crisp textured white bedspreads, vintage style furniture, decorative reading lamps and long sweeping curtains. Both bedrooms have queen beds, and one can be converted to a twin bed if preferred. Ensuites have retro-inspired tiles and luxurious showers with complimentary beauty products and toiletries. The island of Lefkas is an ideal choice for a Greek island getaway – it has stunning beaches, friendly locals and a peaceful atmosphere. Connected to the mainland by a causeway, it is one of the rare Greek islands that you can drive to. The airport is on the mainland, 25km away in Aktion. The villa is perfectly placed in a village called Sfafkiotes in the north of the island. Surrounded by dense forestry and with beautiful sea views, it couldn’t be more ideal for a family holiday.
The town of Lefkas is just a short drive away; a traditional Greek town made up of a warren of narrow streets and charming alleyways with ochre and sienna rooftops. There is a main square that has plenty of cute cafes and characterful bars. The town has a lively buzz in the evenings, when the locals gather for food and merriment. Lefkas town has lots of tiny boutiques and gift shops for finding lovely souvenirs and local produce to take home with you.
There are spectacular beaches on every coast on Lefkas – you could choose a different beach every day of your holiday with plenty left over for next time. The picture-perfect beach used in many marketing campaigns is Porto Katsiki, a beach with dramatic white cliffs covered with lush greenery. Swirling shades of blue sea and powdery white sand makes up the beach – it’s the most famous beach in the area for a reason.
Another great choice is Pefkoulia beach with intense blue shallow waters and a calm tide. The golden sand and pebbles provide the best of both worlds, while pine trees dot the hillside. Take a stroll along the beach and soak up the Mediterranean sunshine. Around the island, watersports are very popular, including paragliding, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Yachting is an exciting pastime for the locals and visitors – check out fancy Lefkada Marina and watch the sophisticated yachts bobbing gently in the harbour. Boat trips to different beaches around Lefkas and neighbouring islands such as Meganisi and Skorpios can be arranged locally.
Nydri waterfall is a popular excursion that guests can undertake independently. This dramatic wall of water is accessed by a short yet scenic hike through olive and citrus groves and over rocky areas. The incredible waterfall descends into a pool where you can swim in the refreshing water. In high season, local stalls sell honey from around the region.
Take a trip to the Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni and soak up some culture of the island. Surrounded by captivating gardens and nestled high on a hill, this monastery dates back to the 17th century. Inside, you’ll find a museum inside with chalices, icons and manuscripts, and even a small zoo!
The food on Lefkas is reminiscent of mainland Greece and the Mediterranean area – with the addition of superb mountain views from many of the restaurants. One dish to try in a traditional taverna is a delicious moussaka, made up of mincemeat layers and tomato sauce with grilled aubergine and creamy bechamel sauce, baked like a lasagne. Another dish to try is souvlaki, which is skewered meat and sometimes vegetables, often done on a barbecue. A local speciality is crusty bread topped with creamy and zingy tzatziki. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
