Your swimming pool is the centrepiece of the spacious terrace, featuring four sun loungers with parasol and a large barbecue. You also have dining and seating areas just outside the house. The quiet Kalathos Beach is only around 400m from the villa, with Vlycha Beach a little further.
There’s a stylish lounge equipped with sofa seating, a flatscreen TV with satellite channels, air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi, and your kitchen has an oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher, coffee maker and a dining table and chairs.
There is a double bedroom and a twin bedroom at Kalathos Blue, each with an attractive bathroom with shower. Both bedrooms offer direct access to the outside area, and also benefit from air-conditioning.
The village of Kalathos has good local amenities including a supermarket, pharmacy, bars and restaurants. Kalathos Beach is one of the longest and cleanest beaches on the island, and a short walk away. Just down the coast, the popular pebble beach of Vlycha is well organised for sunbathing and water-sports.
A few minutes’ drive away, there are more lovely beaches in Lindos, including the idyllic St Paul’s Bay. If you’re willing to drive a bit further, you should also check out the wonderful Prasonisi Beach which sits at the island’s southernmost point.
Lindos has some of the island’s best nightlife as well as an iconic landmark in the form of the Lindos Acropolis. Around 50 minutes’ drive up the coast, the city of Rhodes is not to be missed with its well-preserved medieval Old Town a big highlight. Look out for great museums of art and archaeology, Evangelismós Cathedral and the Palace of the Grand Masters among many fascinating attractions.Rhodes has so much going on all over the island, your choices for days out will be endless. At the top of the island, the capital city is a good place to start – the Old Town in Rhodes city is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe, but still very much a city of today.
The Palace of the Grand Masters is the main attraction of this impressive UNESCO World Heritage site, but you can have just as much fun exploring the labyrinth of old streets which make up the Old Town – there are so many architecturally interesting buildings to see. A walk around the old city walls is a very scenic way to get to know Rhodes, or you could check out the Archaeological Museum, The Museum of Modern Greek Art or even the Bee Museum for more local insight.
Rhodes has plenty of big-name shops and restaurants all over the place – some are tourist traps, but you can find plenty of good ones too. Among the city’s other attractions are Elli Beach and Rhodes Acropolis, while the city also boasts the biggest and boldest nightlife scene on the island. Head for Orfanidou Street for the biggest concentration of bars and clubs in town.
Elsewhere, you have excellent outdoor attractions like the Valley of the Butterflies, to the west of Faliraki. It’s particularly lovely in summer when hordes of colourful butterflies appear. You could combine your visit with a trip to the Epta Piges (Seven Springs), about 35 minutes’ drive south. Both of these are idyllic spots with areas of woodland that are perfect for walking. Anthony Quinn Bay, a very pretty beach south of Faliraki, is also well worth a visit.
Rhodes has many more beaches on the east coast. You could stop off at Afantou, Archangelos, Agathi or Lindos as you travel south. The stunning Prasonisi attracts surfers and kite-surfers, and is well worth the trip to the very tip of the island. If you’re after sporting activity, the island delivers all sorts of opportunities – everything from scuba-diving to golf and horse-riding is available, and with such expansive areas of countryside, walking and cycling are great ways of exploring too.
There’s a lot for kids to enjoy on the island, such as the water-parks of Faliraki, the go-karting track, Kartodrome, and the Marine Aquarium in Rhodes city. There are also many sights of historical interest – the Lindos Acropolis is definitely worth a visit, as you’ll be rewarded for the steep walk by some breathtaking ocean views. At Excellence Luxury Villas we pride ourselves on going that little bit further for our guests.
