You’ll be warmly welcomed at this commanding hillside villa in Tuscany, a one-of-a-kind retreat far above city life. You’re greeted with a basket full of breakfast food and regional specialties to start your villa holiday on the right foot. The owners are invested in your comfort – a daily cleaning service is included, and they’re happy to arrange tours of Florence, cooking or art lessons, and more (just ask!).
The view from the terrace will take your breath away – here you’re above it all. The private swimming pool overlooks Val d’Arno, and is built into the side of the hill (a jump from the little diving board will feel extra-daring!) After your swim you’ll certainly want to hit the sauna in the spa.
Inside your holiday villa, the decor is charming and unique – high ceilings, and light colours contrast with the sober wooden beams overhead and the occasional antique armoire. Even the formal dining room and chef’s kitchen feel light and airy. There is both a main house and a 2 bedroom annex, for those who require more privacy. All this may feel a million miles away, but it’s not – Florence is only 14 km away. Villa Leopolda is located near San Donato in Collina, only 14 km southeast of Florence. It is an ideal distance for day trips to the cities of Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo, Lucca, Pisa, Assisi and Urbino.
The villa meets modern ecological requirements and uses renewable energy. All the electric energy is generated by solar power. The air conditioning, heating and cooling systems are generated by means of geothermal energy.
The nearest village (with food, post office, and a bar) is 3 km from the villa, and the nearest chemist is around 2 km away.- Guests are given a welcome basket with everything needed for the first breakfast, as well as wine, olive oil of the region, and cheese.- Guests are greeted on arrival and helped to settle into the property.- Catering: A cook is available for €150 + IVA 21% (plus the costs of the shopping) per evening if guests want help one evening. The cook comes at 5 pm to prepare dinner and serves until time for dessert.
Services upon request at additional cost: – Cooking lessons are available for €300 + IVA for the first lesson and €200 + IVA for two or three days. The chef comes at 3 pm to have the lesson with guests. The lesson will be based on a menu proposed by the chef including antipasto, primo, secondo con contorno e dessert. – Drawing and aquarelle lessons in Italian. The lessons are for 2 hours over 2 days and cost €100. Tours
The owners can organize a private guide to accompany guests in the streets of Florence. Below are different tour proposals, but the guide is very happy to tailor any tour to individual desires.
Tour 1 :
A classical tour suggested for first time visitors that crosses all the main monuments, 3 hours long. The religious heart, including the Duomo, the Baptistery, Giotto’s bell tower and Brunelleschi’s Dome, is first. The medieval quarters with the house-towers is second. Finally, the political heart with the city hall, palazzo vecchio, signoria Square and the famous old bridge completes the tour.
Tour 2:
This is a 2 hour private walking tour starting from the ‘Duomo’ area, the religious heart of the city, and progressing through the tiny and narrow streets of the medieval quarters. Guests will see the highlights of Florence, the Signoria Square, the old bridge, and St. Croce until they reach the ‘Oltrarno’ where artisans still work at keeping ancient traditions alive.
Tour 3:
This is a full-day tour of six hours. It starts with a visit to one of the most important museums with the original Michelangelo masterpiece the David Statue. The guide will help guests skip the huge waiting lines. After the museum, the walking tour moves into the religious heart of the city, where guests will see the baptistery, the cathedral (Duomo), Giotto’s bell tower and Brunelleschi’s Dome. After a break for lunch, the tour moves to the political heart of the city: Signoria square, old bridge and the inside of the most beautiful church of Florence, Santa Croce. It has Giotto’s 16th century frescoes and Michelangelo’s, Galileo’s, and Machiavelli’s tombs.
Tour 4:
This is a 3 hour evening day tour for curious children. Summer is very hot in Florence, so guests will enjoy the breeze of the evening with an accurate tour of the secrets and legends in this ancient town. The Roman town, the towers, and the hidden narrow streets are especially exciting for children that get bored of seeing monuments or for adults that want variety. This is a unique experience to see Florence from an unexpected point of view. The last stop is always for the best gelato in Florence. The cost is 50 euro per hour.
