It’s a short stroll to the local pizzeria/cafe which also sells basic groceries or a five-minute drive to the next local village with a handful of authentic restaurants and a small supermarket. Discover walking and cycling trails through nearby forests and hills and appreciate the glorious scenery of the Ligurian countryside.
Yet you are also so close to the coast with the Cinque Terre National Park within striking distance. Either follow the winding roads to the most northern of the five enchanting villages, Monterosso al Mare, or drive to La Spezia, around 20km away, where you can catch a train or boat in order to visit this UNESCO World Heritage site. Keen hikers will adore the many walking trails between the villages, passing terraced olive groves, vines and pine forests, often following perched rocky paths with the most spectacular sea views.
Then there’s the romance of the Golfo dei Poeti with its idyllic bays and mesmerising vistas that inspired the likes of Byron and Shelley, also a paradise for walkers and nature lovers. Or travel further afield to discover the beauty of Lucca, Pisa and even Florence in this captivating part of beautiful Italy. Casa Tinetto is in the heart of the Ligurian countryside, close to the border with Tuscany and well positioned for exploring the mesmerising Cinque Terre National Park with La Spezia just 20km away.
Set on the edge of a small village, there is a pizzeria/cafe within a two-minute walk which also sells basic groceries whilst other amenities including further restaurants and a small supermarket can be found within a five-minute drive. Brugnato (11km) has a greater selection of shops including an outlet shopping centre with a range of brands.
When visiting the Cinque Terre, you can either follow the winding roads to the villages (the nearest being Monterosso al Mare around 25km away) or head to La Spezia (20km) as a starting point for the train or boat excursions. Keen walkers note that there is over 120km of walking trails across this area, including the famous Via dell’Amore between Manarola and Riomaggiore, whilst others pass through pine forests, old olive terraces, vineyards and meadows, often following perched rocky paths with the most spectacular sea views. Each of the five fishing villages has its own charm and character and its no wonder that this region is now a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The romantic Golfo dei Poeti is also wonderful to visit and comparatively less crowded than Cinque Terre but still incredibly beautiful. Look out for seaside villages, pretty beaches and glorious scenery that inspired the likes of Byron and Shelley. Tellaro (30km) is listed as one of Italy’s prettiest villages whilst Lerici (25km) has the most enchanting beaches. Portovenere is another gem near La Spezia and the start of the Cinque Terre with its gloriously coloured houses and breathtaking views. There are also many inspiring hiking trails along this part of the Ligurian coastline whilst diving and summer watersports can also be found in the area.
Further afield, other attractions include the exquisite Tuscan city of Lucca (85km), the vibrant summer seaside resorts of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, around an hour away, or even the world-famous city of Florence, two hours by car.
