Halfway between Lucca and Florence, this 18th-century villa sits in the Valdinievole hills. Up here the view is panoramic; olive groves, and chestnut and oak woods cloaking the rolling countryside. Old terracotta Tuscan vases dot the sprawling grounds and a Roman-style swimming pool sits in the perfect manicured lawn. One of the best spots to watch the Tuscan sunset is from the hydromassage in the pool. Long Italian lunches can be a rustic affair under the wooden-roofed terrace and there are plenty of patios and balconies to find a sunny spot to read. Inside, it’s all traditional Tuscan charm. Wooden ceilings and terracotta tiles set the countryhouse tone and antique dressers, wing-backed armchairs and stone-hewn fireplaces add a touch of grandeur. The kitchen is a real treat – a working fireplace, range cooker and stone sink lend themselves to 18th-century feasting, served in the grand dining room. Work it all off in the home’s gym the next day.
