This pastel pink 19th-century home looks like it’s been plucked straight from the pages of a romance novel. Set in the heart of Montecatini Terme – an idyllic Tuscan town northwest of Florence – it has all the ingredients for an unforgettable holiday. The surrounding park, shops, spas, and restaurants mean that while you’ll enjoy the remote style of villa living, you’ll be well-connected to all the best offerings of the town. The villa’s imposing marble staircase, golden drapes, ornate chandeliers and beautiful orchids make us feel like we’re staying in a museum. The living room’s grand watercolours and neoclassical artworks in gilded frames don’t hurt either. We especially love the bedrooms, with oversized Renaissance wallpaper creating a dramatic place to lay your head at the end of the night. When you wake, draw the curtains and open the windows for views of sun-dappled green trees. The back garden is deliciously private, enclosed by hedges and granted a kiss of shade from neighboring foliage. When the temperature gets too hot, take a dip in the glittering pool before sprawling out on a towel. We could spend all of our holiday around the pool, but there’s more to do in Montecatini Terme – visit the art nouveau Parco delle Terme spa complex and the MO.C.A. for art by the contemporary masters Joan Miro and Claes Oldenburg. Spend an afternoon riding the funicular up to Montecatini Alto for sweeping views of Tuscany, or take a day trip to the renowned beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi. Then it’s probably time for another swim.
