Like a scene from a painting, this secluded villa sits atop a hill in the middle of the countryside. Surrounded by cypress, pomegranate and lemon trees, towering oaks and red rose bushes, it’s truly something special – and the garden is our favourite spot of all. Flit between swimming in the pool, lounging by the shady cabana and dining under the pergola. The panoramic views are pretty spectacular, stretching across the olive groves and rolling hills towards the peaks of Monte Amiata. And the sunsets? Even better. Pour yourself a glass of wine, pull up a chair and watch as the twilight sky is painted purple and red.
Inside is just as idyllic, as every inch is brimming with rustic charm. Original details like timber beams, exposed stone and arched doorways, antique furniture and warm, earthy colours create a homely feel in every room. Whether you’re sprawled out with a book in one of the lounges (there are two), cooking up a storm in the country kitchen (which has everything home chefs will need) or napping in the cosy bedrooms, this farmhouse has oodles of space and character.
When you fancy venturing out, the picturesque village of Celle sul Rigo is fifteen minutes away, while the renowned thermal baths in San Casciano dei Bagni are also reachable in fifteen. But if you’re up for driving a little further, Perugia, Siena and Grosseto are less than two hours by car and make great options for day trips.
