Out in the garden, you’ve got beautiful views of the Chianti hills that surround this villa where you can sit back with a rich red wine (perhaps from the private wine cellar inside) and spot the famous hilltop town of San Gimignano in the distance. There are numerous terraces, loggias and secluded spots to enjoy a quiet moment, and the grounds are crowned with a pristine swimming pool at their centre. But the highlight has to be the private, restored 13th-century chapel – perfect for an intimate celebration.
The villa itself was built as a family castle near the castle town of Castelfiorentino (a three-minute drive away) and still retains its old-world splendour. Olive oil presses, stone fireplaces and frescoed ceilings and walls are a nod to the villa’s past, while the huge gas range cooker in the kitchen and Jacuzzi bathtubs in three of the ensuites are a reminder that you’re in the 21st century. Bag the bedroom at the top of the medieval tower for sweeping countryside views, or just head up to the top with a glass of something cold and admire the rolling Chianti Hills from on high.
The world-class galleries and famous sights of Florence are just a half-hour drive away should you want to get out and explore. But we wouldn’t blame you if you spent all your time exploring the grounds and villa.
